What is it about Simon Bridges and the truth? If he’s not lying about employment law, or fibbing about talking to the ILO, he’s misleading select committee over what he was told by forestry workers when he went out to talk health and safety.
According to Bridges’ claims in select committee on June 6th the new (non-binding) forestry code of practice has been welcomed by all of the workers he met with and fixed the health and safety problems that have plagued the industry. He’s a working class hero, that boy Bridges.
Unfortunately for Simon Bridges, Helen Kelly was on the same trip, and after hearing Bridges’ bullshit has made a formal complaint to the committee’s chair, David Bennett:
Indeed, the conversations Kelly had with the workers onsite were concerning enough that a month before the select committee comments in question, she wrote letters to both Bridges and to the forestry company that had contracted the workers to raise concerns about some of the poor practices:
Forestry is one of the most dangerous industries in New Zealand, it’s one in which workers are regularly killed or maimed. The fact that Bridges can lie so glibly about a matter that is literally life and death is, quite frankly, disgusting.
But it also show just how little he and his party values Kiwi workers.
