Confronted with a protest about the government’s lack of action on child poverty, John Key’s response is:
“So yeah, they just protest because that’s all they’ve got to do all day.”
As though protesting – participating in our democracy – was a particularly unimportant thing to do.
Also, if the people he was writing off were only protesting because of a lack of things to do… Maybe that’s because he’s running a lousy government with high unemployment and the very lack of jobs that was part of what they were protesting about… Good depth of vision there John.
But on another issue John is keen for everyone to have very good vision – his smiling and waving. That’s why he’s advertising for an “enthusiastic videographer” – to be paid for out of his leader’s budget (“which we can spend however we like”).
Because it’s important nobody misses a smile or a wave from John. (But not important that he does anything about jobs).
