This will teach the LibNats to attack Jacinda and Labour. Deputy Prime Minister Baranaby Joyce, who had been nominated for the kiwi of the year award, has been declared ineligible to be elected to the Australian Parliament because he is a kiwi. And so his fate will be decided in a by election. I understand that he has renounced his New Zealand citizenship so is again eligible to stand but you would think that after the number of Section 44 issues the Australian Parliament has had he would have been more careful.
Another 5 MPs have been declared to be ineligible, including 2 Green senators who had the decency to resign when their situation was first discovered, a One Nation senator, a National party senator and a LibNat senator.
The Government will be wanting the by election, scheduled for December 2, 2017 to be completed as soon as possible. He represented the seat of New England which appears to be very safe but by elections are funny things. In the meantime Labor will want a vote of confidence to be held.
But serves him right. It is funny that the so called lucky country which is meant to be a home to all races and ethnicities should have such a provision in its constitution. But after Manus Island and the way this government has treated kiwis this Government deserves all the chaos this provision is causing.
