It was International Women’s Day this week, which means there’s a few good articles looking at gender issues. Ex-Clinton Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers piece at the BBC about the important improvements gained when women gain power is a great summary piece. Hugo Chavez’ funeral on International Women’s Day inspires a Guardian piece on the importance of women to Chavez’ revolution (and a few others), and how Venezualan women will be hoping to consolidate the gains of the socialist Bolivar revolution.
A few other articles of interest:
– The scariest climate change graph just got scarier – the hockey sticks handle was 9000 years too short, as we’ve reversed 7000 years of cooling in the last 100 years.
– Israel has hit is tipping point as Jews are outbred by Palestinians – they can have historic borders or a democratic Jewish state – not both.
– The UK Conservative welfare cuts and short-term thinking undergoes examination by the excellent Cambridge economist Ha-Joon Chang. The parallels with here are obviously massive.
– Is history progress? Have atheists managed to leave our Christian theological presumptions behind? And how does this shape the UK Conservatives new education idea (no doubt soon to be seen here…)
