In parliament on Tuesday, Key outlined the latest weapon in the government’s plan to ignore fix the immense non-existent housing crisis…er…thing.
That strategy?…..
Blame the previous government.
Clever eh?
I still haven’t quite worked out how attempts to attribute blame for past events are going to help with plans for future events, but John Key is much cleverer than me so I spose I’ll just have to trust him.
Seeing as he’s got such a solid track record of trust with that GCSB stuff, eh?
In fact, nobody is quite sure how the details of this unusual, forward-thinking policy will be implemented in practice, although I’m fairly confident that, whatever happens, Fran O’Sullivan will describe it as inspired genius.
And according to Key himself, this is the line he may run with for months and months…

“And I advise members to get used to hearing that, cos they are gonna hear it on every radio station and every TV debate for a long time to come.”
It would seem the entire foundation of National’s housing policy during the election campaign will rest on this vacuous bold move.
Understandably the opposition has been rocked by this maverick tactic from the master-politician Key, and I can imagine it will be some time before they develop a satisfactory response.
But I suggest a cunning counter-strategy for the Labour party…start blaming the Sidney Holland government.
