Chris Trotter’s article last week in the Independent is worth a read & when I find a link I’ll provide it.
Trotter says that John Key’s disastrous speech to the National Party Conference puts an end to Key’s honeymoon with the voters. It’s worse than that. The National Party strategy is based on keeping Key out of trouble in the hope that the government will be rejected by the electorate. This ‘do nothing, say nothing’ strategy relies on style over substance, but now Key’s minders know that their man can no longer even deliver just empty ‘style’.
The real trouble with John Key is that he is running up the biggest lie in New Zealand political history, well, maybe a close second to the one Don Brash ran.
While the Hollow Men may have been a hollow book, it did highlight the superficiality of the National Party’s attempts to win over a majority electorate, whilst keeping in the background an extreme and unpopular minority view.
The real agenda for National is masked behind a thin veil, which was allowed to slip slightly & yet again & at their disastrous party conference a couple of week’s ago. Along with State Housing sell-offs, will come any number of sell-outs & ACC, infrastructure and utilities, plus of course education and health.
Keep smiling John because not even a new speech writer can fix this problem.
