NatRad’s Insight has the best overview of the Brownlees mining proposal that I’ve seen (or rather heard) from the media to date.

As the facebook group, Save Radio New Zealand says:-

A brilliant example of the quality of RNZ National’s investigative journalism, this Insight piece aired last night (and Sunday morning). It covers the plans to mine conservation areas from various sides of the fence. Such measured and information reporting is the perfect reminder about why we need to be support RNZ every way we can.

I’d agree. Neither television or print media to date have managed to produce much balanced commentary. Take some time to listen to the slightly less than 28 minutes of this interview. It provides more information than Gerry Brownlee has so far managed to produce. It talks to a wide range of people about the effects, benefits and worries that they have in opening up schedule 4 land.

1. I’ve been testing this audio player plugin. Unfortunately it was unable to stream from NatRad, so (with apologies to NatRad ³) this is currently operating off a local copy while I figure out what is causing it to fail.
   
   
2. You’d think by now that government departments would be able to build websites that conform to the web standards. On Firefox 3.5.8 on Ubuntu this submission form looks like a kids first attempt attempting to use Microsoft Word to write a web page. But I guess that this government has little interest in public input based on their performance to date, either that or they’ve fired the techs required to operate the site.
3. I’d really prefer to use NatRad’s bandwidth, and will once I figure out how to get the streaming in Flash not to fail when jumping to their domain.
