No wonder Key’s losing his credibility. He just keeps on getting it wrong.

• 22 July: Unemployment is falling. Nope, it has been rising since 2011.
• 27 Aug: Asset sales don’t be delayed. They’ve been delayed at least six months.
• 28 Aug: National’s polls are rising.*Down 12% in a year.
• 24 Sept: I wasn’t briefed on GCSB’s spying on Dotcom. Yes, he was.
• 28 Sept: there’s no need for a Police investigation into the GCSB. Yes, there is, say Police.
• 4 Oct: It’s highly unlikely I’ll discuss Dotcom in Hollywood. He discussed Dotcom in Hollywood.
• 5 Oct: I won’t offer incentives to Hollywood. He offered them more incentives.
• 8 Oct: Intervening in the currency is “whacky”. Governments are intervening in all the free-floating currencies, except a handful of third world countries – and us.
• 8 Oct: There’s no crisis in manufacturing. 40,000 lost manufacturing jobs say otherwise.
• 8 Oct: Manufacturing is going “extremely well”. Actually, it’s still in recession.

And that’s just some recent ones that spring to mind. Here’s a few older ones:

•  7 Dec 2008: The dollar will fall into the 40-50 cent range against the USD. Nope, 80 cents plus.
• 19 May 2011: 170,000 jobs in 4 years. 7,000 more unemployed so far.
• 19 May 2011: Surplus by 2014/15. No way.

 

 

*actually, he said that a graph of rising poverty looked like National’s poll ratings. Nice, eh?
