Nats’ homophobic dog-whistling continues

3News viewers were left wondering if Duncan Garner is still pissed after the long weekend tonight. Using material that has clearly come from Jason Ede in Key’s office Murray McCully, Garner played the message-bearer for National’s continuing attacks on Labour’s gay MPs.

So Chris Carter is going to observe the UK elections. It’s part of his job. He’s Labour’s Foreign Affairs spokesman. He’s only getting the big flights paid for. Covering the personal costs himself. Garner himself admits Carter is doing nothing wrong. His partner (cue stock footage of homosexual(!) couple drinking bubbly) might come too. Would pay his own way.

There’s not the slightest attempt at balance. Apart from 5 seconds at the end.

Key’s off for a couple of weeks. Is that all taxpayer funded? Is it really really necessary?

What about Bennett? She’s off on holiday at the moment. Taking five weeks off later this year for a ‘study course’ in the States while on her ministerial salary. How many MPs from other parties use their taxpayer allowances legitimately or illegitimately?

Guess it doesn’t matter because they’re not gay.

It’s not like Garner can be short of news. Hide is headlining a conference on privatising local assets. Newsworthy? Nah. Nearly every government ministry opposes the three strikes law. Newsworthy? Nah. Australia appalled by Key’s haphazard whaling policy. That’s news, no?

Hey, Garner’s piece used footage of Carter running at the relay for life along with other Labour MPs the other week. Labour didn’t seek any publicity. They just took part. Only political party there. How about: ‘MPs put in the hard yards to fight cancer’? Nah. Only Key gets that kind of buttlicking coverage.

What the hell is Whanau Ora? 276,000 jobless and no government plan? Falling satisfaction with living conditions among Kiwis? Nah.

How’s about: ‘Nats attempt to throw dirt at gay MPs’? We live in vain hope of a day when the media does that kind of story. Gotta protect those contacts, eh?

‘Gay flies to Europe on your money’. That’s news.

I’m apologising to Chris Carter for calling him a dick last year. He was right. There is a National campaign to get him. And it is centred on his sexuality.

It makes me heave that Garner, one of the best journos in the country, should lower himself to become part of it.

Update: I’ve received a tip-off McCully was actually behind this one. Jason must’ve just been helping with the cooking up this time.
