  1. SPC 1

One of the Christopher's, Bishop son of Bishop, has attacked the Taxpayers Union founded by his father for their attack ads.

He also questioned why a Taxpayers Union, formed to operate like a PAC on behalf of the political right, should concern itself with matters not directly related to tax – such as co-governance and one law for all pledges.

He praised the CTU for fighting for workers, which was their stated purpose, because of course they would favour the Fair Pay Agreement modelled on Oz legislation that led to higher wages and better working conditions.

That was their right of free speech he said.

The Free Speech Union also came out in defence of the CTU, why would it remain silent and say nothing – given so many rich actors had thrown their support for ACT and National to reduce their tax liability and better exploit workers under National?

The spitting image of hypocrisy lives on.

  2. SPC 3

What’s at risk if NACT win, pathways to home ownership.

From Kiwibuild to Progressive Home Ownership. Home purchases through rent-to-buy, shared equity or leasehold arrangements.

There are other things, such as grants for home upgrades.

  3. SPC 4

National has Labour in a corner, but Hipkins has nothing to lose

It's paywalled so parsing the argument is difficult.

Labour has Luxon in a corner (over the flawed tax plan), and Bishop junior and Willis can either bring some smelling salts, or improve their own game to help him out.

    • PsyclingLeft.Always 4.1

IMO Chris Hipkins will run rings around Chris Luxon. Jab. Jab. Jab.

      : )

      • Roy Cartland 4.1.1

Don't forget Hipkins is fighting not only Luxon but the MSM as well. Remember how poorly Don Brash did in the debates? His excuse was that he 'didn't want to interrupt a woman when she was speaking'!

This was what was reported and a whole legion of msm supporters lauded him for being such a gentleman. Hipkins has this to be wary of too.

        • PsyclingLeft.Always 4.1.1.1

Well…yes "msm" is not quite a Left Friendly area. But IMO Chris Hipkins himself..and Team are up to dealing to Chris Luxon..and team.

I think this will show through..despite the msm : )

  4. SPC 5

    This situation is really primitive.

The union says they are just asking that salaries maintain their value to inflation.

The offer made is between 7 to 12.9% and is for 17 months.

Of course it is an increase from the past agreement – and lasts for 17 months at the new rate.

Has anyone considered just increasing the award by the CPI each year automatically (called an escalation within an award/contract), and have award agreements that cover other issues?

After all there are waiting lists and staff shortages – issues totally unrelated to maintaining the real value of the salary year to year. These are the issues that really need to be addressed.
