The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

For those wondering why the German Frigate is being towed backwards?
It's because ships over a certain size are forbidden to turn within the London Pool as few ships have come unstuck the tides & wind like HMS Jupiter a Type 12 Frigate when it ran into the bridge & lately a France Cruise Ship ran into something.
I was wondering. I looked at the squared off 'bow' and thinking it was un-seaworthy. Then realised it was reversed. Took a while.
I reckon you could spun the millennium falcon round in there though!
That's what the Capt & Navigator of HMS Jupiter thought they could do with their Type 12 and promptly ran into the bridge side on with the Helicopter deck get wedge under bridge LoL.
Got a picture of it somewhere in my Library.
The Empire strikes back. Does Germany even have an empire any more?
Russia doesn't, but seems keen on reaquiring one. The dream of past empire dies hard.
The 'Imperial March' is an ironic ode to imperialist hubris.
The sight of German sailors comicly standing in formation on the rear deck, with their officers parade on the Bridge in dress uniform, whilst their warship is being unceromoniously towed backwards up the Thames, – What accompanying thene music could more perfectly capture this ironic moment than the 'Imperial March'?
This incident led the presenter of this clip to beg the question; "I wonder what the Royal Navy plays when it is going down the Rhine?"
I think a British naval warship being towed, forwards or backwards, up the Rhine with or without British sailors on parade, blasting out the 'Imperial March' would carry a completely different, less ironic more sinister connotation.
"Your imperial masters have arrived"
Played to even greater comincal effect, a large group of British Labour MPs who came by train to Scotland to campaign against the Scottish independence referendum, were accompained by the 'Imperial March' as they made their way through Glasgow from the train station,
You can even see the MPs unconciously falling into step to the martial beat.
I applaud the lightheartedness of the German commanding officer. He should be awarded a Diplomacy.
Agree.
It's music closely related in style to Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, but from composer John Williams' impeccable US commercial credentials: faultlessly NATO cultural concept.
Dark Father strikes again.
