Having watched chunks of Tumps address I was intrigued by the way that every line was given standing ovations from the Republicans. Are Presidential addresses always punctuated by jack-in-the-box orchestrations like that?
As a Kiwi I couldn't understand the applause gained from the blatant lies told by Trump or that serious elected Senators would accept them so enthusiastically.
It seems to be an American thing – the Biden one was also heavily sprinkled with applause.
Of course, the applause is partisan – I doubt many Republicans were applauding Biden, and the same will have been true for the Democrats with Trump.
This kind of address is political theatre.
