The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about peopleâs relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Caught some whopper trout a while ago so out of the freezer, pluck a lemon, into the tinfoil and onto the bbq next to the other goodies.
mmmmmmmmmmm
oh, as well as loafing on the lounger under the walnut in the 30deg that should waft across the plains manana.
mmmmmmmmmmm
Sounds delicious. You’re obviously not in the Auckland region as there’s a ban on any outdoor fires including BBQs.
PS: It’s been sweltering at my place this afternoon. I’ve now ceased doing anything very active, and am waiting for the air to cool down.
And feb hasn’t started yet ;(
Ah, February – must look for more things to do away from home in the day time. Maybe I should just leave housework til the evenings.
Minus 5 all day today, and tomorrow will be colder. Still it’s easier to dress for the cold than the heat, and of course we have warm as toast European housing via the Fernwarme which burns rubbish to provide heating for the whole city.
Feb will be even colder here, but I’m finalising details for my trip back to NZ in Feb – bring on the sunscreen! I’ve located the sunglasses…
Rosy: It seemed to me that though Vienna and Saltzburg had temperatures down near zero, it was a sort of dry cold, windless and not too unpleasant. One morning it was minus 7 but no visible frost. Low humidity??? And you are so right about being more able to dress for coldness than deal with heat. Spain in the summer or Vietnam anytime is so hot/sweaty and hard to escape.
Who knows what your February trip home to NZ will be like. Better bring an umbrella, sunblock and a very warm coat.
Little wind certainly helps. When I moved here I was warned about Vienna’s reputation for being windy… I lol’d, coming from Wellington. There are gale-force wind here a couple of days a year, that’s about it really. It’s the dullness of the cloudy days rather than the cold that’s a pain by the end of winter, and taking 10 mins to put on the warm clothes for a 5 min walk to the shop.
I politely refuse the suggestion of the umbrella and warm coat (I have a couple of them now – really warm). I have a very special wedding to attend at an outdoor venue in a drought region. I expect the weather gods to turn on the sunshine and warmth until after the 17th Feb, then it can rain as much as the farmers like đ
27degrees in Auckland this afternoon. Probably higher in West Auckland as it is an easterly wind and the West gets less of the maritime cooling effect from that direction. Add to that the interminable high humidity and it isn’t comfortable. Expect to experience the same conditions for the next 4 to 5 days at least. Sorry….
Thanks, Anne, for such a good explanation. I thought it was just me getting old.
I’m working the next couple of days where there is at least some aircon. Doing housework today has been a dizzying experience.
Hope the fire ban re BBQs doesn’t relate to the usual gas fired on the deck breed – I purchased some meaty goodies from the Mad Butcher – and just found out that there is a discount for us fogies with a gold card!!! Purchased some chicken nibbles marinated in a Tandoori sauce and hubby is about to sizzle them. Yep, it’s been hot in Swanson today – yes, we do have a micro climate out this way and we do miss a lot of the crappy Auckland weather. The tornado which ripped through Hobsonville late last year was only a bit of a breeze here!
Well, I don’t think they are that specific, Jilly Bee. At the link I put above, it says this:
Swanson – nice area. The place I’m living in right now is a bit of a sun trap, with not enough windows that can open to let a breeze through.
Checking out the 4’s n rotaries show for me, and doing a bit of work on my own fossil fuel consumption devices.
Other than that just catching up with a mate and clearing junk out to make room for impending child.
This weekend will consist of work, more work, and for some light relief – other work.
End of the second product out of the 2.5 year project at work, intermixed with talking to some campaigners about blogging, and doing some site fixes for another blogger.
The aircond may have to go on….
