The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Question Time 2/5:a mini-review:
Louise Upson got today's disconnection-from-reality-award..for banging on about getting people off the dole…
.. while the numbers of those newly unemployed continues to inexorably rise ..
Parker vs. Peter's…on aukus..
Parker cooly presents/lists/quotes from all the ostensibly rightwing former leaders..who are opposed to aukus..
.. whereas Peter's continues to pimp for aukus..
Peter's bombastically blusters .(..as he does..)
..and gets fail-of-the-day..
..Peter's ends his routine with a trumpian clarion-call..
..some barely coherent drivel about 'taking back our country'..he is fast becoming a cartoon character..
..Simmons tries to defend the firing of the lawyers of children who have been trafficked/abused…saying 'they are not frontline staff '
(She gets quote-of-the-day..for that purler..)
Nationals minister for guns has a few yucks about the upcoming carnage to be wreaked upon ducks ..(modern day barbarism..I reckon..)
Penk lists the changes he is making to simplify the regulations around house alterations etc…and there wasn't much to be argued against..
Upson doubles-down/backs up her disconnection award..and gets a weasel -words-award thrown in for good measure..
..for claiming that voluntary redundancies at msd..'are not job cuts'..
Jones pimps for 'dig..!..dig..!..dig..!'..and 'drill..!..drill .!..drill..!'
..and he gets word-of-the-day..for 'wokism'..
Performer-of-the-day goes to Parker ..he nailed it…
Yes, calm and measured, and all Peters could do was be personal.
The other fail I saw was the theatrically bad answer by Jones with pantomime vocal delivery ending on an artificially raised tone such as used by the poor misunderstood Widow Twankey when seeking audience approval for her actions.

There seems to be a lot of media hypocritical finger pointing at Julie Anne Genter over her unfortunate outburst in parliament. Yes, it was an error of judgement but who hasn't lost the plot at some time in their life when someone has made misleading comments or accusations about something you know is incorrect.
What is far more serious is Winston Peters' latest outburst:

I hope Bob Carr goes ahead and sues Peters for defamation. Peters not only deserves it, but this puts NZ in a bad light at a time when diplomacy and respectful dialogue is becoming more important than ever.
Helen sounding like a sweet breath of intelligent air……

She always does. I would like to say more but my cat is jealous and insists on sitting on the keyboard. 🙁
Winston is simply stating what is, and has for a long time been, a widely held opinion in Australia about Bob Carr and Australia.

It is hardly embarasiing or damaging.
One of the most stark comments about Public Service in the Herald today:
"The Secretary for Education, Iona Holsted, said 755 roles across the Ministry of Education would go. Only 439 people would lose their jobs, however, as 316 of the roles in line to be scrapped were vacant."
How nice it's 'only' 439
