So the government is turning it's formidable intellectual might into cutting part time workers sick leave addressing the Holidays Act.

Howzabout, since clearly they worship Mammon, they pay out what is owed already before tu-tuing with the legislation?

I think the change to sick leave is sensible. We have a person at work that is semi retired and works one day a week (4 hours). So he works 48 days a year due to annual leave, and is entitled to 10 days sick leave if required. Whereas a person working five days a week full time is entitled to the same 10 days.

Uhuh…do, or did, you have a problem with Workers getting the 10 days sick leave? (And thanks Labour !)

I ask because all kinds of bosses/employers were highly pissed about it…..

Any thoughts on workers getting what they are overdue (8 years and many broken promises of settlement dates) before conditions are eroded?

I think it is terrible in the first place that the payroll software did not calculate their holiday pay correctly. We all rely on computers these days and they should be confident the program they use does the correct calculations. Possibly it was human error and if that is the case, they should correct it as soon as it was discovered. It is fundamentally important to pay people correctly and we always ensure at my work we do, however if there is an error, (normally a human error eg. wrong number of hours) it is corrected promptly. My opinion they should pull out all the stops and get it corrected asap.

As for your last sentence, I don't think conditions will be eroded.

Yep, I couldn't agree more about pay.

The power imbalance is profound, imagine owing the state money but not paying it and breaking assurances several times over when it was to be paid…

Of course changing sick leave entitlements is an erosion of conditions. As any old school lefty or unionist will tell you, that is never to be tolerated. But as it targets women, the young and the disabled, the greedy will have their way.

Just to look at this from another lens, illness often takes a certain amount of time to recover from, that influences sick leave.
This is a business cost and should be reflected by what that businesses charges.
These capitalists seeking to change this are just like the lazy, money grabbing types that charge a surcharge on public holidays.
