Oh dear. A headline article in the 'world' section of the Guardian:

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/article/2024/aug/08/nz-pm-takes-swipe-at-australians-after-maori-language-removed-from-official-letter

It leaves one with the impression that NZ is run by a bunch of mentally challenged hooligans. They be right there!

  2. New climate doco by Paddy Gower, to be released on Monday.

This is without doubt the most important documentary I have done. Antarctica is melting. If it goes, we go. (1/5) #Antarctica #Science #Climate

Climate Change is here, and it is messing with the ice down there. But there is hope, we can adapt. (2/5)

I spent three weeks in Antarctica making this, overwhelmed not just by its beauty but by its power over our World. (3/5)

This documentary is about the scientists and the explorers down on the ice, and the important messages they have for us. (4/5)

    🧊 PATRICK GOWER: ON ICE.

📺 This Monday August 12, and Tuesday August 13 on Three. Stream both episodes on ThreeNow from Monday morning.

Thanks to Antarctica New Zealand and New Zealand On Air. (5/5)

      "we can adapt"

Um, no, we can't. We have to mitigate and adapt.

And we have to mitigate more than carbon emissions. I freely admit to this being my personal crusade over the last 3 decades but we all tend to forget or sideline the issue of mass particulate and chemical pollution, especially the presence of "forever chemicals" which damage DNA and/or disrupt the endocrine system.

These chemicals do not just affect us, they are a major cause of loss of insect and bird life forming a series of interconnecting vicious circles. We have to change the entire way we organise production and consumption … which means we have to stop tinkering with facets of the superstructure and focus on changing the economic base.

completely agree. Also topsoil loss, deforestation, ocean life… It's pretty much everything now.
