Thank goodness we have such a well informed woman in Paula Bennett. Given a prime spot on TV1 News she was right on target to forestall any outcome from the enquiry and warned us that the outcome will be a Whitewash. Of course it will.

Mind you she could be muddying the waters for when it is discovered that everything that Labour Party Council was done by the book and that her actions were to use the victims for political gain. No never could Paula-Above-Reproach be devious or even dishonest in her representation. Dirty Tricks? No way. A reformed National Party is above that sort of thing.

    • I share your assumption that Bennett has no integrity and there's nothing she wouldn't stoop to, but please keep in mind that if the Labour Party leadership did turn out to be thoroughly vindicated by the investigation, it would mean that the complainant who's alleged sexual abuse has been lying about having told the party about the abuse, and Bennett would then be the last person on everyone's mind. Personally, I highly doubt the investigation will find that the victim lied, I'm just saying be careful about what it is you're wishing for.

      • Pete George 3.1.1

It would mean this person was also lying about his experiences and his corroboration of the woman who went to The Spinoff.

Labour assault investigation retraumatised victims – witness

A man who says he was assaulted by a Labour Party staffer would like to meet with Jacinda Ardern to discuss the party's handling of claims of sexual abuse and assault.

        The Prime Minister has refused…

The Labour hierarchy knew 6 months ago about the sexual abuse allegations, it is just not pausable that Ardern was not briefed on such explosive ramifications.

But one of the 12 complainants told Stuff he directly raised the matter with the investigating panel in March this year.

He has provided Stuff with an email he sent to Haworth in May which refers directly to "this investigation …which involved elements of predatory behaviour, sexual violence and physical violence."

But that was this year and not part of the enquiry in 2018.

        • mac1 3.1.1.2

Pete George, your selective quote from the rnz citation you gave is very misleading.

Why did you stop the quote at the word refused? This gives the impression that the Prime Minister has refused "to meet with Jacinda Ardern to discuss the party's handling of claims etc."

The actual text that ought to have been quoted is as follows. "The Prime Minister has refused to express full confidence in Labour president Nigel Haworth, who is under increasing pressure over the claims."

          Very much a different matter.

          Are you mischief-making, Pete George?

Well-spotted. Of course he is – and I'm annoyed that bozos in that party have given him an opening by not learning anything.

      • RRM 3.1.2

        Nothing they wouldn't stoop to??

Labour people lied and tried to smear Chris Bishop as some kind of sleazy sexual creeper. Remember that?

Labour people cheered a distasteful pop song about John Key's daughter.

But then they feign ignorance, stonewall and run protection when it looks like one of their own party apparatchiks is an actual rapist.

Labour people are winning the stooping to new lows contest right now.

They'll throw anybody under the bus, they'll excuse anything up to and including rape, they'll slander anybody, if it serves the glorious party.

Just disgusting people with no moral compass, just tribal allegiance.

Simon Bridges rejects claim he met with China's head of secret police.

"Bridges was back in Wellington on Tuesday following his five-day visit to the superpower, where he met with Guo Shengkun who is responsible for the Ministry of State Security (MSS)".

"MSS is China's intelligence and security agency. The US Department of Justice has described it as being like a combination of the CIA and FBI".

    https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2019/09/simon-bridges-rejects-claim-he-met-with-china-s-head-of-secret-police.html

    • Sure – "like a combination of the CIA and FBI," but working for a totalitarian communist dictatorship. The KGB and its predecessors were also "like a combination of the CIA and FBI." I expect Bridges and Lavrenti Beria would have got on like a house on fire.

Let us see how Haworth and Ardern spin there way out of this now. I know who the accused is and how he is integral to Arderns office, I think we will see multiple heads roll to save face.

National Ad from 1975: Soon the government will end up owning everything in the country….and we all know what that means…

2019: The government ends up owning just about everything in the country. Only its the Chinese government.

Please stand for the National Anthem and Official Video of the People's Republic of China.

Rumours are that Simon has permission to use it for National Party advertising.

Seems the son has become his father.

Netanyahu has remade Israel into his bigot father's image. Such is Bibi – dutiful child of a supremacist. Obedient husband of a supremacist. Role-model father of a supremacist.

    […]

The dutiful child of a supremacist. The obedient husband of a supremacist. The role-model father of a supremacist. Netanyahu has remade Israel in his bigot father’s image. A quarter century ago, as a young candidate condemning peace talks and slamming Israeli negotiations with Palestinians as if Palestinians were people with rights, Benjamin Netanyahu wanted Israel to hate to death its prime minister, whose name was Rabin.

    https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-reigning-supremacist-the-house-of-netanyahu-and-the-jews-bibi-hates-1.7818344

(It's probably worth mentioning that Benzion X is not a run-of-the-mill Zionist, but one of the most extreme in the history of the movement. He has many times expressed the view that Arabs are by nature and by definition virtually subhuman, and can and should only be dealt with through extreme forms of force. He also adheres to a greater Israel movement which holds the present borders, including occupied territories, to be entirely unsatisfactory. He was unable to establish a viable political career in Israel because his views were considered beyond the limits of respectability even by the extreme right. So, the specific version of the nationalist political agenda actually being expressed in that act of changing the name Mileikowsky to Netanyahu isn't a normal form of nationalism or a normal form of Zionism, but a program of institutionalized racism and regional aggression of a particularly vicious variety. But, of course, the son is not the father.)

Like their job wasn't hard enough…RNZ claim 40 police/ex have now contacted them regarding their workplace bullying since the story first broke. Mike Bush basically gave the standard PR type line. Hopefully they get even more coming forward to ensure this issue isn't swept aside.

Ok Labour, you have been outed. Covering up sexual abuse in your party while at the same time crowing #metoo. And really, is anyone going to believe #dearleaderversiontwo wasn't aware? C'mom…..this is the public of New Zealand here, not a bunch of party hacks falling in line. I love how the media is now turning on Adern and Labour.

    • Anne 10.1

Golly gosh… you must have been livid when this story broke late last year. Similar to the current Labour Party stoush. Y'know, sexual harassment… pinning young woman down on bed… follows her across the road and gets her inside a toilet and starts groping her again:

      https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12166768

And Simon said much the same as Jacinda. That is, he couldn't comment because there is an inquiry in progress and he needed to wait for it to be completed.

We never heard another word from the National Party or the MSM.

No hissy fits and hysterical media commentary for the Nats.

No attempt to apprise the public of the outcome – if there was an outcome.

The deafening silence suggests to me the inquiry was dropped and the media apparently never even questioned what happened to it.

      • ianmac 10.1.1

Well said Anne. In the current case there seems to be something orchestrated about it all.

        • Anne 10.1.1.1

To the point where it's starting to become quite rancid. A bit like the venal attack on David Cunliffe in 2014. I'm not going to link to the trashy woman, but HDPA has written a nasty piece accusing Jacinda of duplicity and dishonesty. How can she possibly make such claims when no-one as yet knows what exactly happened.

Oh and lets not forget… money and perks buy a lot of silent loyalty. Ask John Key.

I think its high time the Labour hierarchy started chatting openly about defamation court cases against these DP pollies and their attendant corporate hacks.

          • Kat 10.1.1.1.1

The PM is facing some dark forces that want her removed. The 2020 election campaign is underway and it is going to get nasty. Fake news is rife. The MSM are poodles and I have no faith in any of them investigating with any depth, especially RNZ Nashnil. I make an exception with Kim Hill, but even she is ultimately shut down. Chris Trotter warned of the neo-liberal power brokers backlash some time ago. The only hope we have is for the PM to win a clear mandate in 2020 from the 'silent majority'.

The New Zealand electorate is on notice in 2020.

      • Chuck 10.1.2

Well done Anne for showing how a political party should handle allegations of sexual assault. National offer support and advice, Labour pretend nothing happened and cover it up.

The victims frustrated by the cover-up go public to be heard some 2 months ago, and even then Jacinda still pretends she was not aware of any alleged sexual assault claims until a few days ago.

Also, note the Police were investigating…Simon could not comment on an active investigation. Jacinda hired her own QC and is under no legal obligation to not comment or act, she chooses not to.

        • Anne 10.1.2.1

What a load of mixed-up gobbledygook.

The Nats did a cover-up job on their own case early this year. Someone was paid off or blackmailed bullied into keeping their mouth shut. Bridges refused to reveal the out-come of their own inquiry into the "culture" within the National Party. He wouldn't even reveal who conducted it (iirc). You can be sure if it had been squeaky clean we would have heard all about it. So dirty linen was uncovered you can be sure of that.

And you know what? Good on them for cleaning up their own mess.

So, why should Labour – who appear to have found themselves in a similar situation – be denigrated and sneered at for doing the same? There's a lot of water yet to go under the bridge, so the naysayers who are pointing accusing fingers just might end up having those fingers permanently cut off – metaphorically speaking.

The hypocrisy of the Nats and their trashy media enablers (eg. Hosking, Soper, HDPA and others) is mind blowing. Anyone with only half a brain knows who the liars and dirty political operators are, and it ain't Jacinda Ardern and her team.

          • Rapunzel 10.1.2.1.1

Until the facts are reported by the QC, and maybe someone should do NZ a favour and before that date outline any issues they perceive with the QC involved so we save a bit if time re-litigating at that time through the vicarious means of social media and headlines.

One fact is certain and that is the income and profile of the likes of Bryce Edwards, the Spinoff staff and many of those employed reporting for Stuff, Newshub, the Herald etc are dependent on being "first" and the most sensational with this, the fact are at this point immaterial to them.

The second fact is that trial and judgement by media will do nothing to protect victims and will not stop the "culture" of abuse, bullying, cheating, lying in the future in fact it accentuates it.

I mentioned about this wee monster a couple of weeks ago and it’s just as bad as it’s Northern counterpart.

    https://www.news.com.au/technology/environment/climate-change/in-for-a-roasting-australia-on-brink-of-apocalyptic-conditions/news-story/73d731e4a07f6b9c39b18897faa0e085

When Australia Firefighters have got to resort too some heavy metal aka Boeing 737 Airlines to waterbomb fires in spring, is akin to throwing your firebook/ TPP’s out window and start making it up as you go now as your knowledge of known fire behaviour is now turned on it head as a result of CC.

Fire in Porter Pass a couple weeks ago was a wee bit out of the ordinary (my old back yard), now massive bush fires in Oz that you would only see at the height of summer about once every 5- 10yrs or longer in spring and only last week at my Bushfires Brigade weekly meet up on Thursday, our Fire Captain was saying our Northern NT Fire Season is looking to stretch way in December which usually the start of the wet season/ cyclone season with possibly no build up or a short one at that before the wet if it comes.

The next CC denial muppet says CC is a hoax or a load of bollocks etc, then I say go and volunteer at your local volunteer fire brigade or at your nearest High Country Fire Team is coming Fire Season this year if you have any morals, balls etc or you deserve to be kicked where it hurts.

Locked up for 180 days and $70,000 in fines for keeping schtum.

    @xychelsea

Alexandria, VA — On Monday, August 5, 2019, Judge Anthony Trenga denied Chelsea Manning’s Motion to Reconsider Sanctions imposed after he found her in civil contempt of court for her refusal to give grand jury testimony relating to her 2010 disclosures of classified information.

While the judge has authority to sanction Ms. Manning in an effort to convince her to comply with his order to testify before the grand jury, he does not have the authority to impose sanctions for punitive purposes. In her motion, Ms. Manning argued that the sanctions, including both incarceration and steep daily fines, will never coerce her compliance with the Court’s order, and therefore impermissibly serve only a punitive function.

City kids grow up with smaller lungs. China smog is notorious. So Trump trade barriers kills soy sales to China,. Brazil sees opportunity, remove barriers to growing soy in once virgin forests. Forests that produce 5% of the o2. So China feeds it's millions, but smothers them too. Wow.
