The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Curia poll is out – and has Labour on 34% – which is in line with much of the recent polling.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_New_Zealand_general_election
Calling into question the accuracy of the most recent Roy Morgan poll, which had Labour at 29% (although they also had the Greens at 12% – so the Left distribution is broadly the same – though a little higher in the Curia poll).
The Curia result has a similar drop for both ACT and Greens – but doesn't result in an appreciable difference in the left/right potential election results.
To me, it looks as though there is still considerable movement in individual support between main and minor parties. Or, of course, it could all be polling 'noise' around the margin of error.
Quite a bump for TOP (presumably following their tax policy release), but still well below the 5% threshold as is NZF (despite Winston's recent burst of optimism)
An election result following this poll distrubtion would have a National/ACT government (51/12), Labour 45, Greens 9, TPM 3.
Luxon hides behind weasel words again. Says he was only "fully aware" of Kuriger case last night.
"Fully aware" is lying by omission. He was "aware" long before, because everyone else was.
At least the media are starting to point this out, though they are still well short of actually doing the follow-up and demanding answers.

You know that had it been a Labour person, by now the usual smarmy crowd like Chris Bishop, Simeon Brown and Mark Mitchell would have been all over it with postings and press releases.
Well, you know, glass houses and all that.
There's a later RNZ piece that says
Goneburger the second the six month window opens before the next election. Or, quietly sits out the term on the back bench.
National won't want to be dealing with a by-election over this right now.
And yeah, the MPI investigation and prosecution had been public knowledge from day one, wtf was she doing as a agriculture spokesperson.
Looking forward to a post here featuring this Nat; Barbara Kuriger.
Two perceived contracts of interest. The one in the national party has the leader sideline the MP. Mahuta in labour gets the leader to say nothing to see here. Bye bye labour 2023!
One actual. Fired.
Nah. Mahuta’s still there … awaiting the outcome of 4 separate investigations.
[You are spreading misinformation; Mahuta herself is not under investigation and, in fact, had asked for an investigation herself.

Mod note
I think you will find that there is a difference between 'actual' (Kuriger) and 'perceived' conflicts of interest. Having special and different words to describe situations that are different is one of the beauties of any language.
The alleged Mahuta conflict of interest is being investigated, as it relates to the Public Service by Peter Hughes, the SSC Commissioner.
You appear not to know very much about Conflicts of Interest.
Here is a good resource

You might want to read the parliamentary manual about perceived conflict of interest too.
Good riddance, the only thing that really annoyed me around the coverage was a comment on the news that said OIA requests from the ministerial letterhead carried extra weight.
The damn well shouldn"t and if they do that is a massive problem.
Had to laugh at the news reporter saying the demotion of Kuriger shows Luxon as being a strong and decisive leader and then saying that however it does call into question the National Party selection process…….once again.
Luxon tried to wave the letterhead controversy away as being of no importance but he is wrong. Using an official letterhead in an attempt to obtain information for the benefit of a family member is surely way out of line. In fact it would not surprise me if it is regarded as a serious parliamentary misdemeanour.
I detect the hand of Collins.
'Murican attack adds.
