Does the relegation of the Births Deaths Marriages and Relationships Bill down to number 27 in the Parliamentary Order Paper mean the Government are just going to quietly take it out the back and bury it?

    fb59b9720feb5874f72d0bc1ba0df140eaa39f5a (www.parliament.nz)

They could go through the whole remainder of the term examining executive COVID responses, and the other 26 items, and then Budget, before they got to number 27.

I guess they've realised they are onto a vote loser with that one, and the poll numbers are looking a bit dicey

Might have something to do with the submissions received. Speak Up for Women went through them all and categorised them.

(Apologies if this doesn't work, I'm not a Facebook user and have no edit function).

Second try, without graphics. From Facebbok post SUFW Oct 4:

Over the past week, a very dedicated group of women have been reviewing the BDMRR submissions to understand how many were for and against the proposed changes.
That task is now complete and the results are summarised in the charts below.
Of the 6,609 submissions, 73% are against the changes with just 25% supportive of them!
The remaining 2% represent duplicated/ supplemental/ unclear submissions.
Of the 73% of submissions that are against the changes, 20% are either stated to support SUFW or appear to have been created using our submission builder.

    • Maybe they do Roblogic….
    • I am think it will be another bill that many NZders will object to, when they find out about it

Fine with the ski slope but the climbing wall….nope.

A year since its opening, the snow-free ski hill and entertainment hub that sits above a waste-to-energy power plant in Copenhagen is fully open to outdoor enthusiasts. New aerial photographs from Hufton+Crow capture the rooftop complex Copenhill (previously) through a blanket of fog, revealing the now lush landscaping that lines hiking trails and visitors as they peer out over the surrounding water. The multi-use site, which is located at the Amager Resource Centre, even has the world’s tallest climbing wall, an 80-meter-high rock structure that scales the entirety of the building.

Copenhill is the project of Danish architectural firm BIG and is the highest outlook in the capital city. The new complex also boasts multi-faceted energy reuse, with the indoor plant converting waste into heat for residents’ homes, while the biodiverse hill outside absorbs heat, filters the air, and minimizes water runoff.

      My God!

I can feel vertigo setting in when I'm just looking at a photo of that climbing wall.

BIG designed the LEGO house and also the Number 8 house I've posted on here a couple of times as well-designed high density housing.

Their portfolio is interesting to look through.

Out of curiosity do they tell us how they distinguish between Maori and Mixed Maori?

The Ashcroft survey is a library of information, and well worth reading. The commentary is obviously biased (he's a Tory) but that's not a reason to write off the data itself.

A couple of examples: near the end there's the question about attitudes to NZ politicians, which shows how deep National's problems are. Collins and Bridges have very high negatives even among Nat/ACT voters. Much worse than other political figures.

The "issues" for voters are similar across the board (housing, economy, health etc). There is nothing to suggest going Trumpy-Republican (shouting "woke" and whistling for doggies) will work for the NZ Right. Quite the opposite.

And there's good news on climate change – large majorities wanting action (including opposition voters). "Denial" is not a vote winner any more.

Here's the link, but it's PDF, and bulky, so a big download:

The absurdity of the Rittenhouse defense.

The important thing to remember about the decisions that left two people dead and a lot of other people holding loose kidneys with expressions of abject horror is that the teenager who showed up in the operating room with a scalpel he had brought from home was a big fan of doctors and thought that he would be able to help.
