The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Not a good day at the office for Mallard today. $333k cost to the tax payer so far, plus a further $37k in legal fees and the accused apparently has a case against parliamentary services. I think this is going to cost the tax payer a lot more half a million. This really irks me when my taxes go towards defending MP's for saying stupid things. The funds could have fed a few families at Christmas.
That is true but nothing to do with Mallards activity nor did Mallard have anything to do with the cause of the "accused" being "let go" by Parliamentary Services. Try harder Jester.
Still not a good look for Mallard when he realised he had made a mistake within 24 hours but doesn't do anything at the time. Then to say there was no more costs to the tax payer only to have the head of parliamentary services say well actually there will be just a minute later. Public will link the two. In fact they already are in the news reports.
Its all semantics anyway as he is too arrogant to resign, and Labour have the numbers if there is a vote of no confidence.
Trump doesn't worry me any more. This does:

Spare a thought for the Fijians this Christmas. It's a La Nina event at the moment and already two significant cyclones have developed. One, Zazu, has already brushed past Tonga. The other, Yasa, is nearing Western Fiji and is already category 5 (see link to Fiji Times article below). The two main weather models are either showing it passing directly over Lautoka on the west coast of Viti Levu, or through the gap between the two main islands and over the same places that were wrecked when Cyclone Winston went through(in the other direction) in 2017. A category 5 cyclone this early in the season is serious and unusual stuff and Fiji has already had a cat 5 cyclone pass over it in April this year. Not surprisng that Frank Bainimarama (Fiji's PM) is one of the most outspoken advocates for climate change action. Some parts of the Pacific are getting hammered every time the cyclone season comes around, now.

Yes Koff this is terrible and those storms are huge. That list bought tears to my eyes.
We can only hope they find safety, and we need to be ready to donate for their recovery.
