    An interesting court case coming up. A neo-liberal solution to a neo-liberal problem.

    From Kaitiaki;

    "…November last year filed a lawsuit against Health New Zealand arguing that the provision of safe staffing and a safe and healthy workplace is a right for all employees under our collective agreement and that Health New Zealand has breached the agreement by not providing a sufficient number of experienced staff in our hospitals."

    They are asking staff to make submissions based on their experiences.

    The last few negotiating rounds a sticking point has been the mechanism that determines when staffing becomes unsafe.

    This is important, not just for nurses but the public as well.

    We are keen to put the boot in when there are the inevitable tragic consequences of under staffing. Be it on the wards, EDs or aged care facilities.

    Women leaving primary health care for better paid work in hospitals. And hospitals are struggling to cope with the consequences of the decline in primary health care. This will be a crisis later in the year.
