    I knew the moment I heard NZ had dropped into recession mode that Luxon would immediately blame the Labour led government. Nope. Haven't read it. Wouldn't waste a second of my time on his load of bullshit:

    I also saw an item on TV1 news this evening that the GCSB allowed a foreign power to install sophisticated spying equipment on NZ and NZers and get this:

    without the knowledge of the government ministers responsible for the spying agencies or their own chiefs knowing about it. (My bold) The country suspected of being the foreign power is… yes the USA.

    It occurred between 2012 and 2020.

    I’ve instructed the Law Commission to stop all work on hate speech legislation.

    @PaulGoldsmithMP

    Since 2022, we have been fundamentally opposed to Labour’s hate speech changes that would bring a significant reduction in free expression and free speech.

    Because the existing hate speech provisions only protect people on the basis of race, ethnicity, skin colour and national origin, there’s a wide range of threatening behaviour which remains legal if directed against vulnerable groups rather than individuals.

    A classic case is the 2017 incident involving Auckland pastor Logan Robertson. Police were unable to charge Robertson with any offence after he said he was “not against [gay people] getting married as long as a bullet goes through their head the moment they kiss” because it wasn’t a specific threat against a specific individual.
