F*ck tha police…

…that seems to be National’s plan as it moves to cut 10% of the police vehicle fleet (why are so many of National’s cuts 10%?). Given the politicking National and its front-groups did on law and order last year you’d think that the last thing they’d do would be make it even harder for them to respond to call-outs in a timely manner. Or at least you would if you were daft enough to believe anything they said before the election.

And what’s Judith Collins’ answer? The government is spending more on tasers. At least they’ll be able to zap people when they finally make it to the scene.

Crusher, this one goes out to you (who’ve guessed you and N.W.A would ever be on the same page? Well, except for the taser stuff):

There’s an entire episode of “The Wire” based on this same premise. Eventually, the cars that are left are so overused that they are falling apart and largely beyond repair. It’s a great morale booster for the cops.

    Barbara Ehrenreich is so sexy.

  2. They also have plans for slashing CYF by closing down some offices. So much for their being tough on crime and increasing the jurisdiction of Youth Courts.

How is CYF going to handle the increased workload? Voluntary overtime? Hope and prey?

PS someone should mash that song with graphics of Crusher, Donkey and co.

hope and ‘prey’. Sounds like the Nats alright 🙂

Unfortunately CYFS are getting shut down in the areas they need it most…

which coincidentally happens to be largely the same areas that Womens Refuge have shut their shelters.

On the upside, at least s59 is no longer an option for the child beaters in those areas to claim for their defence.

Why do you need police cars when you have the army in their LAVs…..

“We’re always ready to assist the police if required,” Mr Fogarty said. “It’s not common for us to do this sort of thing, though.”……(yet?”)

There is a constant theme here. The Army were going to get rid of some LAVs – Another Wayne Mapp Brain Fart. Now Crusher Collins is evening up the playing field for Boy Racers by doing away with the Cop Cars.

It’s like 1989 all over again.

Ugh, with what has happened with the left-over Federal government stuff being sold to Police in the U.S. …I really don’t want to see this happening here any time soon. The U.S. is one country we really don’t want to emulate.

“why are so many of National’s cuts 10%?”

The British Tories are talking about 10% cuts too. Maybe C/T are advising their clients that the public will swallow 10% cuts but may balk at anything higher.

Strikes me that this is one of the few sensible things the Nats have done. If the cops can’t find a car to drive, they can go back to walking the beat – they’ll be a lot more effective walking around talking to people than sitting in cars, anyway.

I’d go further and cut police numbers by firing the most incompetent, corrupt and bigoted 20% of police. Then they’d have more than enough cars, and they’d be more effective again.

Can you hear the wailing and gnashing which will come with:
“I called 111 and it was 47 minutes before the police could find a taxi to respond to my call! What the hell are the incompetent cops doing? “

“they can go back to walking the beat ”

Why aren’t there beat cops in Auckland, I’ve often wondered?

It’s ok – no need to panic. Instead of crushing the boy-racer cars, Judith will simply repaint them in white with blue trim and deploy them to the nearest cop shop.

  8. I know this makes a nice beat up meme for you guys, but the reality is that there are hundreds of cars parked up all the time at police stations all over the country. I have blogged on this with regard to the (minimum) 10 cars parked at the Kerikeri station ALL THE TIME. Despite O’Connor having his usual bleat this will make no difference at all to the effectiveness (or otherwise) of our police force.

how is it that the National Party can find $100 Million dollars for a fun site in 2011 but not be able to find 20 million to keep 300 police cars on the road.
And last night when all the beltway windbags were all over radio new zealand news and the teevee news did nobody else draw this comparison?
