The party of law and order thinks law and order only applies to the little people.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) called for the U.S. Supreme Court to "step in" to overturn the guilty verdict against former President Trump in his New York hush money trial.

Why it matters: It's one of the starkest examples yet of Republicans, furious about the jury's decision, calling for some form of intervention to protect the ex-president.

Yeah, the justice system is truly broken, how dare they hold law breakers to account.

Open all cell doors and release every U.S. prisoner!!

    And there it is.

TEL AVIV — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not agree to end the war in Gaza in exchange for the release of hostages unless opinion polls show it is politically advantageous for him, a top Israeli security official told the families of those held captive, a person in the closed-door meeting and an advocacy group said Friday.

The comments by Netanyahu’s national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi, first made public by Israel’s Channel 12 broadcaster, sent shock waves through the hostage family community nearly eight months after their loved ones were kidnapped by Hamas during the Oct. 7 attack.

“The Israeli government made a conscious and deliberate decision to sacrifice the hostages,” the Hostage Family Forum said in a statement Friday. “The hostages, and the entire State of Israel, have been taken captive by those who chose political interests over their national and governmental duty.”

“The Israeli government made a conscious and deliberate decision to sacrifice the hostages,”

This has always been so as The Government there has long had the policy that giving in to the demands of hostage takers can only encourage future hostage takers. Those who take hostages MUST know that it will not avail them in any way AND that they will be hunted down to the ends of the earth, then treated with destruction.

When hostages are taken they are the cost of this policy. Recovered hostages are a bonus.

The hostages are not ‘sacrificed’ and their Government expends extraordinary efforts to rescue them …. remember Entebe?

I remember Netanyahu averring that “enough” of the 132 remaining Israeli hostages held in Gaza are alive to justify Israel’s ongoing war in the region,…

Yep – a hostage rescue mission not a "genocide"

        • joe90 3.1.1.1

          a "genocide"

          WTF are you on about?

          • Maurice 3.1.1.1.1

Watching too much Al jaseeera News – that term has been bandied about constantly there.

            https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2023/10/14/this-is-genocide

            • Morrissey 3.1.1.1.1.1

The term "genocide" is used by far more than Al Jazeera News to refer to the campaign of extermination being waged by the Israeli Occupation Force.

It's not "bandied about" either; it's a rational and objective term for what Israel is (unsuccessfully) attempting to achieve.

You need to read the indictment prepared by South Africa for the International Court of Justice. Your comments will be worth considering once you have done so.

              • Maurice

For a "campaign of extermination" a death toll of 35,000 (reported by Al jazzera) out of 2.5 million in an area bombed flat over months it is a bit of a failure.

Not quite up to the level of the Holocaust …

Have read the S.A. charges – made by a country murdering and driving out its white farmers ……

                • Morrissey

Your last comment confirms my suspicions about your judgement and good faith, or lack thereof.

… and this is to be taken seriously?

He's a nasty piece of work, but the destruction of Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya is hardly genocide.

            Yeah, no.

"…after a long and thorough examination, the FIDH International Board – the elected body of legal experts and human rights defenders from all over the world – adopted a resolution recognising Israel's actions against the Palestinian people as an unfolding genocide." -The International Federation for Human Rights, December 2023

Zuma's revenge – there will be no coalition with ANC unless it changes its leadership.

That leaves the President of South Africa with only one option, convince his party to keep him on and form a coalition government with the Democratic Alliance.
