Open mike is your post.
It’s open for discussing topics of interest, making announcements, general discussion, whatever you choose.
Comment on whatever takes your fancy.
The usual good behaviour rules apply (see the link to Policy in the banner).
Step right up to the mike…
The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
From todays Herald….Many voters are “not only venal, but ignorant”, according to former National Party leader Don Brash.
From the party thats based upon venality thats very rich. And ignorant. Perhaps he knows his supporters too well.
Yeah I don’t think he realises that those words can have negative connotations…
Now, where did I put my passport?
Bailey Kurariki gets more “media exposure”
“The country’s youngest convicted killer is the subject of a new police complaint, accused of indecently assaulting two female journalists.”

I say give him what he wants. His own 24/7 media exposure fantasy reality TV show and allow us the pleasure of watching him implode…he’d be back inside in no time.
I’m thinkin, a rock/flava of love type of thing, sponsored by hell pizza.
Be way more entertaining than police 10/7 !

recidivist behaviour – effect. herald reporters entering kurariki household – idiotic. 12 year old boy sentenced to 7 years imprisonment – child abuse.

on q+a yesterday therese arsenic mentioned a bill that has constitutional clauses that the nats are trying to keep on the backburner.

I see that the Act party tries to get the government to go along with a cap on spending.
“National and ACT have been holding talks on spending limits, but Mr Hide said he was pushing hard to have a cap set before a taxpayer rights bill, which would allow the public to veto spending above a set level, goes before Parliament.”
Sounds like fun, until you realise that that is pretty much what California has done. And look where that got them: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/25/opinion/25krugman.html?_r=1&ref=opinion
You would think Rodney and his comrades would take the time to look up from their political manifesto scroll every now and then to observe the real world around them.
Hell no Rod and gung-ho don’t want to know what happens in reality. The idea is always so much more tantalising and exciting than after implementation. But when the problems occur it will be someone else’s fault. Rod will have slid away with a graceful swoop and turn and be facing a different direction, with another set of new, fresh ideas (last century’s half-baked ideas just crisped in the oven).
As the Marx brothers said “Get your new fresh pies here”. Actually Rod should get into movie making – he likes the entertainment scene and he has big fantastic ideas. He’s a natural.
