Not having a lot of understanding myself about how the US parliamentary system operates, can anyone put some context around that clip? What’s that hearing? A bit like a select committee session or….?
A select committee session is a fairly close analogy. They were discussing a bill called HR1 that covers campaign finance reform and a bunch of other things.

Yep, she’s there to make waves. Bigly. In a really valuable way.
Just like she’s been a big part of fleshing out the “Green New Deal” which is now a concrete proposal. That’s fast-moving leadership.

All? Seriously, that’s barely scratching the surface of what’s fucked up in America’s political systems.
And this is how crazy its all got

Nicely done.
She’s created a teachable moment five minutes long that ought to be used as the basis for college political education (not that I believe the US education system provides political education). Informed adults know it all already, however.
Alienating the powers that be in the Democratic Party is the obvious consequence. I suspect she’s smart enough to know that, so I’m intrigued she’s doing it regardless.
Gotta start somewhere.
The problem with America’s political system – is that they have updated and modernised everything except it – so there isn’t really a workable system at all.
The biggest richest country can have a tizzy fit and not pay its employees – why that’s what the pesky Russians would do. Now in Texas [your choice of state here] we know how to do things right, is the likely statement.
Drugs, man drugs !
Seems even the greatest empires had probs with them,… not just the CIA and Indo China and the Vietnam war… Americas probs ? Phsaw!

If she wants to have a crack at Superpacs she’s only got 4 seats to shift on the Supreme Court. Best of luck figuring out the constraints you are elected within Alexandria.

If I paused to think, she’s only a handful of years younger than a person who is running my country … and doing a good job.
I think I suffer from weariness about US politics.
But she is too young to run for President. Too young in 2020 and still too young in 2024.
She’ll be 35 on Inauguration Day 2025. Actually, she’ll be 35 on Election Day 2024. If the King of the Whoppers somehow pulls out a win in 2020, I fully expect AOC to go hard in 2024.
The world is in such a bad shape I despair the thought of another incrementalist. Maybe AOC for 2020?

AOC was born 13th October 1989.
Yet a newbie is there – I’m left thinking ‘well played’ (even if we’re already in extra time), but if you were the newbie, how would you have ‘played’ it?
