T’was the day of Christmas

Yesterday while browsing Twitter I saw this tweet from Jeremy Greenbrook-Held, whose claims to fame include not only running very good local campaigns but also being randomly savaged in some late night tweeting by National List MP Joanne Hayes.

He tweeted this.

And I felt the urge to write some poetry:

It was the day of Christmas

And all through the house

No one was stirring not even a mouse

Except National’s social media team

Who thought it a good day

To delete all the crazy stuff their MPs on twitter did say

It was weird that there was this concentrated effort to remove likes and retweets occurring on Christmas day. And some of the deleted tweets (thanks Politwoops NZ) were pretty innocuous. Things like retweets of people signing National petitions, also known as the harvesting of email addresses.

But then it became clearer. The deleted tweets were from prominent #TurnArdern book burning members. People like Colin Wilson aka Coltheman, Gentle Breeze, Chubbs the Kitten, CGT is a hate crime, Teacher of Trades, and Whale Hunter.

And clearly National’s social media team have a Borg like control of MPs’s social media. Matt King gave the game away:

It must be a real kick in the guts to the turn around crew dedicated in their desire to address child poverty by turning magazines and who have recently decided to become book burners to be ostracised by the politicians they love and adore.  But clearly even National realises the turnaround campaign which is morphing into a book burning campaign is a pathetic silly idea.

Proud to have a censorship team so zealous & diligent that they even work on xmas day – what role models, eh? If the tweeters would only work as hard, could get the party up over the 50% threshold – but no, too lazy.

I wonder if any of the Nats notice that their censorship is reducing their right of free speech? Putting two & two together is real hard for Nats. Even if they do object, Simon will tell them that hey, you can still tweet shit. We'll just keep deleting it. Kinda like the people in the park who tag along after their dogs with hands inside plastic bags, picking up the turds. He’s a clever lawyer and them are well-trained in the art of getting around principles.

Not sure if this originated from the Labour media team, but if it did this is what media relations should look like rather than the shameful erasure of mistweeted comments

You could call it Mike Hosking's telling off T-shirt.

But it's also now his Christmas T-shirt, courtesy of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

The broadcaster today proudly wore his Christmas gift from Ardern, a white T-shirt with a print of the pair mid-debate during an interview in October.

"I heart Tuesdays" is printed below the image, in reference to the day of the Prime Minister's regular interview slot on Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking Breakfast.

yes lets burn books and flip magazines, because the nats seem be lacking in anything else that remotely looks like actual policies. They're not fit to organise a pissup in a brewery let alone govern….

MPs from Northland King and Reti get a mention here. They were mentioned in the letters to the editor of the Northern Advocate the other day too.

That was about their flourishing newspaper electioneering campaign paid for by tax-payers. The campaign fired up by the Peters and Jones presence with all the discussion about the suggestion of the Auckland Port move north.

If their party had planned and budgeted for a Warkworth to Whangarei four lane highway years ago all their (our) advertising money wouldn't be wasted now.

    A Christmas straw poll

Did you purchase any of your presents online from an offshore seller?

If so, what proportion of your spend was offshore?

I bought all my xmas presents on line, all books from mighty ape in silverdale auckland NZ. I get them couriered direct as rellies are scattered in nz and overseas. Great service and I don't have to go anywhere near the stock yarding pens euphemistically called malls.

Wishing you all a contented year

so online but NZ retailer…..and agree about the stock yarding pens. Am trying to get an idea (although have found some stats) about offshore purchasing as speaking to my family this Christmas everyone remarked about how much stuff they bought from overseas sites compared to previously….and that dosnt end up in out GDP stats or electronic payments data

Perhaps we should fight fire with fire and #turnbennett.
