A third Drinking Liberally chapter is underway. The first meeting of Drinking Liberally – Palmerston North will be next Friday at the Kingsgate bar. The guest speaker will be Hamish MacDouall, Labour candidate for Whanganui, David Bowie expert, brain box, and all-round nice guy.
Now, Palmy isn’t known as a hotbed of political activism but this is an opportunity to change that. If you’re into politics and living up that way, get along and meet some like-minded jokers and jokeresses, and sign up to the Facebook group.
Drinking Liberally Wellington has been great for getting people together and out of that they’re building networks and finding ways to contribute to the causes they feel passionate about. Hopefully, Palmy will be the same.
Now, who’s going to take the lead and set up a chapter in Dunedin, Christchurch, or Hamilton?

The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Bring on Christchurch!
They drink pretty liberally in CHCH so I’m Told
Great work Liam and team, best wishes for your first event 🙂
— Dunedin.
Smoking liberally happens every week on Wednesdays and Fridays around the Walnut Tree on Otago University Campus….
Full details @ http://www.otagonorml.com/
— nah in all serious have been ploting something like this for a while now.
Bring on Hamilton!
bring on Nelson!!……………………………………please.
D’ya reckon they’d let me in if I promised not to bring a recording device?
Forget the drinking Liberally you twisted terps how about a medal at the Olympics?
If it was the gay games we would have a truck load by now. What a pathetic soft cock country of wankers .
Proud to be kiwi – yeah right fuckwit !!@!!
[Tane: Dad, take a week off. Next time you may be banned indefinitely.]
does anybody here respond? Or do we just ignore it
Sheesh Dad – you’re not a happy chappie tonight!
LP: Are we done babysitting this lunatic? I’m getting a bit tired of reading his homophobic and downright abusive ramblings.
When is the next drinking liberally wellington? I like hairy armpitted girls and bearded guys because I’m a centrist – I swing anyway that pleases – just like Peter Dunne…
Tiger coward ,I am not a lunatic. I am a kiwi who has seen his country plummet into a place where I am totally embarrassed to say I am a kiwi male.
If you are proud of our country then ok, but I am certainly not proud of any aspect of our once proud Nation.
Ban me, if it makes you feel better, I don’t care.
I think Dad is suffering withdrawals from his penis enlargement pills.
I am dreading this pathetic and desperate soul-searching undertaken by NZ, as a Nation, when it’s 7 days into the olympics and we haven’t got a medal.
Here’s the skinny: IT ALWAYS BLOODY HAPPENS THUS! I see the Herald has a poll, the papers are running with “ohno what if we don’t get any” and it’s the same with the news.
It is truly pathetic, and it happens every time. Dad – harden up. Unless you’re going to go and get a medal yourself, quit your whining. NZ media – same goes you you too. Take a pill and calm down. They’ll come, and if they don’t then they don’t. Let’s just not be a quivering introspective morass of whingers.
Rant over.
Go DL Palmy! Congratulations to the organiser.
Tomato juice is hard to get out of clothes, I’ll give you that. Don’t give up the motel business, I hear you can make a killing!
I wish Helen would come and stay at my motel Matt?
They have nice showers and lovely gardens that Alfred looks after.
That start time should be 4:30.
D4J. honest to god, shape up or get lost. there are sparks of wit but it’s almost drowned out in all the homophobia and drivel
I suspect Hamish’s Pa may perhaps be slightly more less happy again.
But no doubt still proud
Dad, you’re boring.
What Matthew Pilott said. Every time the Black Caps or the All Blacks lose the Australians try to get a rise out of me. Fortunately I care not a whit, so they go away far more disappointed than if they’d actually lost. It’s a form of Zen… perhaps I should set up as a guru specialising in poor sporting performance.
Whoever’s going to Drinking Liberally do please pass on my best wishes for success to Hamish MacDouall. I rate him as one of Labour’s more impressive candidates but given Chester’s unholy alliance with Michael Laws I’d be barracking for Hamish anyway, based on the good old “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” maxim 😀
Dad4justice. I beseech thee. Please stop making the same stupid posts about how bad it is in NZ.
Do you have food in your stomach? Are you being shot at? – No.
How about you go and pour yourself a large glass of harden the f**k up.
Lots of people,in the world have it far, far worse than you so stop crying about your pathetic situation because we all here are sick of listening to your inane drivel.
Well Dad4justice I can honestly and conclusively say tonight that you’re full of sh*t. You’re saying the same crap over and over again it’s becoming boring.
Maybe it’s about time you did a bit of soul searching and perhaps considered growing up a bit. As Savage says, you have food in your stomach, you’re not being shot at (which is more than I can say for those in Georgia or Iraq) and I can only assume that you live in a house with power and running water. You also happen to live in a country that has wholeheartedly embraced a free and fair democracy where dissent is not only allowed but encouraged.
If you really have this much disdain for New Zealand I challenge you to don your batsuit in Tiananmen Square and see how far that gets you.
Union rally of 500 in Palmy yesterday. There’s room for political activism there, it’s just not the middle class liberal activism you’re imagining.
Bridge those gaps and you’ve got a movement people.
