It is possible that LLOYD MARTEN (aged 12, Auckland) is still alive.

I wonder what he could tell us?

He was obviously gifted at a young age.

Throughout his long life, I wonder; Did he write any other poems?

The politicians and parents of some kiddies in NZ had ideals and thought noble sentiments – more than today? The year before ww1 was declared. Ghastly things going on overseas. Men went from NZ to fight in Spain etc at this time in the name of standards of human respect and rights.
    What now?

To the homeland via the Panama Canal 🙂

How things have changed. Key can get a direct flight.

I very much appreciate this ‘1938’ series.

Prompted by this #11, I’d like to see poetry given more prominence in today’s media. Dylan Thomas’s definition of poetry was “The best things said in the best way.” Wordsworth called it “Emotion recollected in tranquillity.” Whatever the definition it required thought, at least several drafts and was the opposite of modern social media.

Cheers Mac1. My first real academic interest was history, and I still find it fascinating.

Hear hear! Open mike and weekend social are always available here, if anyone feels the urge.

I will put up the Bob Dylan song lyrics again that I put up a week ago have probably got lost in the general mix. He’s got a great way with words.
