A pretty grim election result for Labour although a silver lining was a very strong showing by the Scottish Nationalist Party in Scotland where all but three seats were won by the SNP.
And the results will clearly show the need for a MMP system in the United Kingdom although the overhang caused by the SNP result would cause some difficulties.
One of the more outstanding results in the British Election was in the seat of Paisley where a young 20 year old woman Mhairi Black defeated Labour’s Douglas Alexander, Labour’s foreign affairs spokesman and campaign chief. Her election night speech was an absolute stunner. She lets you know exactly what she thinks about such issues as renewal of Trident and austerity. I have not been able to find a good quality version of it yet (there is this poorer quality clip) but the speech is well worth a look.
Below is video of her taking part in a recent televised debate about trust and politics. Her urging for Parliament to be truly representative is so right at so many levels.
She will have huge expectations but if she manages to continue with her passion and determination then I am sure she will make the UK a better place for everyone.

The youngest MP for…….a long, long time. She is great, with integrity and passion in spades. Long may it last.
The youngest MP since Gareth Hughes was elected as a 15 year old.

No offence meant for Gareth by the way, I’m not really an ageist.
