CTU busts ACC spin

Over the last week or so the Government, and Nick Smith in particular, have run a dishonest PR campaign to undermine ACC and soften up the public for cuts and eventual privatisation.

In response, the Council of Trade Unions has put together a helpful fact sheet to set the record straight and bust some of the Government’s more outrageous spin.

You can download it in PDF format here.

And if you haven’t read it, take a look at this morning’s guest post, Cutting Through the Spin on ACC.

Excellent work! This is just the sort of thing we are going to need to do together if we are to combat National and their Crosby/Textor promoted big business polcies. Again, thanks.

I hope they got that as a full page spread in all three newspapers.

  3. Wow some clarity being inserted in the debate. It cannot be often that Brian Fallow and the CTU agree.

    Someone tell Tim Ellis!

    Tim Ellis, where are you?

Ask about the current CTU membership now in March 2009 and membership figures in March 2008 and you will get a very hostile reply from them.
They have had a huge decline which similarly reflects the Labour Parties slump in the most recent polls toonly 25%.
I am surprised that more mainstream Journo’s are not following this story up. The angle here is that workers cannot justify paying their union fees under voluntary membership, a shrinking job market and an emplyee contract act thats working quite efficiently.
In my last stream about ACC I had some person at the Standard, using rather extreme language and accused me of…”WHORE STREAMING????”

[lprent: I suspect that you mean link-whoring. I’m the sysop of the site. The one that has you in moderation for being an idiot ]

If this is the fact that I put in a refering http to my cartoon website that lampooned various Labour M.P’s and their antics prior to the elections….
How can this be WHORE STREAMING??… I would have thought that this link would be of interest to yuour readers? Its not scam its not commercial content!.

[lprent: You obviously didn’t read my last note – you can put a URL to your site where it says “URL”. You cannot put a link in the body of the comment unless it directly relates to the post or comments. In your case because of persistent link-whoring/doping, I’m not allowing it at all. I don’t give a shit if it is commercial. What I care about is people spamming this site to increase readership at their crappy little site]

Steve do you treat people who have an opposing view to your own like this guy John Slater?
Michael Woodhouse: What advice has the Minister received on changes to the board of ACC?
Hon Dr NICK SMITH: I was surprised to hear, this morning on the radio, Mr Goff say: “It’s quite inappropriate to sack people because you don’t like their party politics.’ I totally agree with his statement, but I note that Mr John Slater, a former ACC board member, was asked to resign by The Labour Government , and the reason given was his involvement in the National Party

The CTU’s membership is its affiliate unions, it doesn’t have individual members. If you’re talking about union membership as a whole, it’s about the same as it’s been for years.Where are you getting your figures from?

Here’s some more fear mongering being shoveled by the granny. Weirdly enough the author gives some page time to Cunliffe and Eriksen.
