  1. SPC 1

JERUSALEM/BERLIN/PARIS, Nov 2 (Reuters) – Israel has asked foreign countries to send hospital ships to help treat wounded Palestinians who are allowed to leave the war-ravaged Gaza Strip for neighbouring Egypt, the Israeli ambassador to Germany said on Thursday.

France said last week it was sending the naval vessel Tonnerre to the eastern Mediterranean on what it described as a mission to support Gaza hospitals. Egypt this week began admitting limited numbers of wounded across its Gaza border.

Overall, I'm not sure Israel can be allowed to control its own destiny because in the two generations of their existence they have shown they not mature enough to be considered responsible power holders in the region.

      • SPC 1.1.1

For mine it's a Likud issue, they are the Hamas of the Israel side.

As for immaturity, the UN has failed at every step.

        1. First it did not secure the border of Palestine to keep the 5 Arab armies away, nor secure the partition border.

        2. Then it did not require Jordan and Egypt to leave occupation so the Palestine state could be established.

        3. Then it did not thank Israel for removing Jordan and Egypt and ask them to leave so a Palestinian state could be established.

        4. Israel has said it wants to end responsibility for Gaza, has the UN said that's about time, now we'll ask all the militants there to disarm so the UN can take over and establish a civil society with open borders.

        5. Then ask Israel to do the same on the West Bank.

Well, isn't that a nice paternalist colonialist statement. Who do you think should be the occupying power?

Which Middle Eastern countries do you think can pass your 'maturity' test to control their own destiny? Syria? Jordan? Saudi Arabia? Iran? Yemen? Ethiopia?

Perhaps the UN should just occupy all of them, too.

What a great way to steal the land. Under the guise of Humanitarian aid.

Once they get them off the land and they never let them get it back.

New low, in a war that is producing new lows by the day

      • SPC 1.2.1

Oh so keeping people alive is ethnic cleansing – grow up.

There is a real need to medevac people (helicopter) to a well set up hospital ship especially for those in the Gaza City hospital who need critical care and for whom movement to tents in makeshift set up in the south is not good enough.

Your straw men are getting a wee bit tiresome.

Israel can and should leave the hospitals alone (ie: no more bombing them), let them get fuel and drugs. Oh wait and stop bombing civilians. Stop killing civilians. Stop a war which is state terrorism writ large.

          • kejo 1.2.1.1.1

Maybe instead of asking for charity Israel should pay other countries for the the cost of operating the Hospital Ships.

          • SPC 1.2.1.1.2

Straw man you say after your claim that Israel wanted land they left in 2005.

The Latin phrase comes to mind, reductio ad absurdum

            • adam 1.2.1.1.2.1

So 1948 never happened? The taking of land by settlers on the west bank is a myth? OK SPC or reductio ad absurdum is it?

              • SPC

Another strawman, given we were discussing your claim that people leaving Gaza was assisting a land grab in Gaza.

1948 happened because 5 Arab armies opposed the founding of Israel making the formation of two states a war.

Go read 1.1.1 and stop misrepresenting the opinions of those who have another opinion to you own.

Wouldn't it show better empathy not to bomb the hospitals in the first place, or the people for that matter?

      • SPC 1.3.1

There was the call to evacuate Gaza City. Hamas told civilians to stay.

It would have been nice if Hamas did not build their military bases under civilian purpose buildings – apartment buildings, hospitals etc.

Fortunately most hospital buildings are little damaged.

But there is a need at such times for extra medical capacity in any case.
