There was, of course the "Pax Mongolica" which established a "rule of law" under which it was said that a virgin seated on a sack of gold could travel from Sarai on the Volga to Karakorum without molestation. The "pacification" of the warring tribes enabled the travels from the West into China by people like Marco Polo.

    The Morgan Poll?

Roy Morgan’s New Zealand Poll for January 2024 shows the new National-led Government (National, ACT & NZ First) with a majority of 51.5% (unchanged from December) with a large lead over the Labour-Greens-Maori Party Parliamentary Opposition on 42% (down 0.5% points).

Support for National was up 2% to 38% (matching their performance at the 2023 NZ election), while support for ACT dropped 2% points to 7.5% (the lowest level of support for ACT for three years since February 2021) and support for NZ First was unchanged at 6%.

Support for Labour was unchanged at 22% while support for the Greens was unchanged at 15.5% – the equal highest level of support for the Greens for over a year since October 2022 and support for the Maori Party was down 0.5% points to 4.5%.

A bit odd. Fancy ACT at 7.5%. Taxpayers Union of course would be more accurate – wouldn't they?

Well, look, what I was doing last night was what I've always done with in my previous life as well, is to bring the senior leadership team together so they actually hear from the leader as to exactly where we're coming from. And so what I wanted to talk about was you know, the why, what, and how of government? And therefore what are the expectations we have of them? And again, you know, what I underscored was New Zealand desperately needs a turnaround. We are focused on outcomes and results and delivery. There is a lot of a culture of wasteful spending that's emerged in Wellington that needs to be really rooted out. And this is going to be an ongoing thematic for us.

See "PM wants a turnaround" Sidebar David Slack.

Some facts and figures included that completely contradict his claims. 🙄
