A Maxwell (lowland clan) looks at the abuse tangata whenua face at elections – a burden of the indigenous people in a settler majority nation and also of an underclass when the haves seek to govern.

I dont know if anyone has seen this article?

First-time eligible voters weigh in on the pressure to decide

More young people are turning out to vote each election, but their numbers still lag far behind the country's older voters.

Thousands of first-time voters will soon be helping to decide New Zealand's future.

Great. IMO I do see a lot of young people…and they are wanting a change for the better for our Planet.

    However..I am a bit concerned about this?…

As at 10 September, 36 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds who were eligible to vote had not yet enrolled.

That compared with about 14 percent of 25- to 29-year-olds yet to enrol, and 2 percent of 60- to 64-year-olds.

Do we have a Taylor Swift?

On Tuesday (19 September), hours after the pop star, 32, called on her US fanbase to register to vote in honour of National Voter Registration Day, Vote.org’s communication director, Nick Morrow, announced that “our site was averaging 13,000 users every 30 minutes”.

“Fun fact: after @taylorswift13 posted on Instagram today directing her followers to register to vote on @votedotorg, our site was averaging 13,0000 users every 30 minutes,” Morrow wrote on X/Twitter.

Oh yea..sorry I do remember your comment earlier. Some derided early Taylor Swift . Why? She was just a young person finding her way.

And now she is stepping up in such a great way !

In NZ there could well be some 18…24 role model people like her.

I do think Chloe Swarbrick has some good rapport. Not sure if she sings though : )?

I really hope some more of those 18..24 year olds get involved. Its their Future.

Those enrolled already get a letter to their address each election – older people move around less. So remaining enrolled is easy.

Once those younger get around to enrolling, then remaining enrolled is a matter of being able to get mail at the new address if they move around a bit – renting, OE and all that.

But there is the internet …

People can enrol or update their details online at vote.nz using their New Zealand driver licence, New Zealand passport or RealMe verified identity.

The last requires a cellphone to receive a text message.

There are a lot of people able to vote over in Oz, they indicate the last electorate they lived in.

So it's just a matter of vote.org online and some ID. And bothering to do so coz there is someone or a party to vote for.

And bothering to do so coz there is someone or a party to vote for.

Thanks for reply. Yes, sadly that seems to be some of it. And also somewhat of "Apathy Rules…Meh"

Some young people I have spoken with…just dont see the point. ( and yes I have said about.. Labour apprentice scheme, 4 Weeks leave etc etc. Greens Environmental Care etc etc..

Then..I remember when I was 18…(back in the dim past ) Did I care about Politics..Nah.

However..I do think a lot more young are aware of our Planets problems….(Climate Marches, which I proudly went on a few )

So…I think it could be changing..for the better : )

        yes

        https://vote.nz/enrolling/enrol-or-update/enrol-or-update-online/

What other methods are there to enrol?

If you don't have regular access to the internet, or the right identification details (New Zealand driver licence, New Zealand passport or RealMe ID) to accompany an online enrolment, you can still enrol in other ways.

You can enrol or update your details by filling in an enrolment form. Call 0800 36 76 56 or freetext your name and address to 3676 to have one sent to you. You can pick up an enrolment form at a Citizen's Advice Bureau, most public libraries, and Electoral Commission offices.

Fuck me, time to leave the five eyes.

No but I think you'll find Adam that Holodomor absolves those Ukrainians who fought alongside the Nazis , because Russia had been so terrible to them .I'm not quite sure what the Jews, the Poles and Roma had done , or the babies and children who were also slaughtered by Ukranian Waffen SS in huge numbers, but it must have been pretty bad

      • adam 6.1.1

So we now can't judge a nazi in isolation?

        My opinion is –

Fuck Holodomor, and any other fucking excuse anyone wants to come up with. That just nazi shit right there, the same fubar use of snowflake historical grievances to kill people. It's just a repeat of what happened in the former Yugoslavia. Nazi motherfucking loving bullshit.
