"There is no crisis. Repeat after me there is no crisis." Sadly there is, but it is not restricted to Kainga Ora and its debt ratios....it is in the absurd level of valuation of property in relation to incomes.
Roblogic posted a link yesterday that should be required viewing for the Labour Party (and all voters) as they review why they were so badly defeated at the last election and use as the basis of any attempt to refresh the party.....if they cannot grasp and...
That is a brilliant link.....everyone (and their mum) should watch the entire thing....they will learn more about real world economics from that 1-2 hours than they will reading all the musings of economic commentators.
Not a bad assessment.....though you forgot mobility, theres always an exit plan.
It appears the thrust of the article has been overlooked.....much like rail.
"The hard truth for those that believe in Rail is that it has never stopped being the Treasury view despite studies such as the Value of Rail in New Zealand study from EY in 2017. For all the talk of a balanced transport view there remains a underlying ...
The following 2 links demonstrate Tino Rangatiratanga in action. https://ngaitahu.iwi.nz/assets/Documents/State-of-Ngai-Tahu-Nation-2021-web.pdf https://whairawa.com/ Ngai Tahu are not waiting for anyone and have organised themselves (imo) well to improve ...
And we dont allow offshore ownership of 'residential property' under some circumstances....lots of loopholes.
So you're advocating capital controls?....that is agin the free movement of capital which is one of the underpinnings of the neolib (Washington) consensus. You're in or you're out.
"She said she believed wealth taxes "are largely unknown" and it would be "complicated to explain it to people"." Somewhat disingenuous....there is nothing more complicated about 'explaining' a wealth tax as opposed to a CGT.....but it may be hard to ...
"If you think about the last time we had a massive correction in the size of government, that was actually in the early 1990s when Ruth Richardson ran her mother of all budgets as she called it. The sort of decline in government consumption that we're ...
Will the fact Judith Collins has been 'made' a KC have any impact on her influence?....other than to perhaps diminish the status of the title.
Makes 3 odd billion for new ferries and associated infrastructure look like a bargain, eh>
A thought experiment that may address (some of) the concerns expressed here (and in other places) Maori are disproportionately represented in most negative economic/health and social indicators. The causes are usually founded in the reduced economic ...

Do you not recall the opprobrium towards those who used the nomenclature 'Jacinta' Patricia?
"...but let us avoid any suggestion of the sort of vicious attacks that the right used against Jacinda Ardern or Chris Hipkins." So the end of hypocrisy.?...think you may be somewhat disappointed there Ed.
The onshore works are required regardless (some necessitated by changed standards) and the wharves are at the end of their working lives...the increased size (and capacity) of the ships only adds marginally (IIRC around 7%) to the costs of the onshore ...
Government position on ferries appears increasingly ideological. With no (effective) savings to be made by cancelling the current proposal, are they advocating the end of a NI/SI rail link? Kiwirail CEO speaking on RNZ this morning….. https://www.rnz.co.nz...
Dont expect to find the latest request for 1.4 billion...so possibly a total of 2 billion less the local body investment.
More than I could say, though I believe not the entire sum being quoted. And I may add that not all of it was Gov expenditure.
Nor do I
$400 million expended to date (apparently), 3 odd billion forecast to complete (uncertain) plus loss on breach of contract or asset sale, and the expected expenditure not made in the near term is reduced by a couple of billion, much of which would have ...
The tax cuts are a fait accompli. Where the 'savings' from the ferry infrastructure goes is undetermined, if it goes anywhere.....perhaps debt reduction....or equally likely welfare support.
On the other hand Willis just removed 2 billion (if indeed that is the sum) from the economy....and maybe it will go to NZTA...and maybe it wont.
Its not a case of expecting the electorate to deliver the perfect result.....its a case of the majority agreeing with the way society is run. And the hope that if they dont that things may be able to be changed. Do you have a better alternative?
who would you prefer to vote for our leaders...the US public perhaps?
Have you considered the circumstances at the time? Faced with an influx of migrants with apparent technological ability to overwhelm your culture (and in this case 2 competing super powers, England and France) you may decide it is better to sign an ...
Yes, wealth inequality is still rising (including under a 'left' government) but the purpose of the post was to draw attention to the results of the fiscal austerity imposed without regard under Finance Minister Richardson....something that appears to be ...
Yes Robert, like those cancellers...who will also face the electorate in the future.
I suspect any answer would be less than exact.
