The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...

Deja vu as with Clare Curran…
Nothing to do with National/Act….of course.
Yes Kat, and a hit in the head with a camera earlier …. how close was the journalist for that to happen?
Her errors blown out of proportion, and when we remember Woodhouse's lies, cruelty with a toilet seat…. it seems petty in a way.
Poor political judgement from Tinetti. She surely knows better.
Very silly in election year – and even sillier after the Nash debacle (Ministers should have been going through their diaries and advice with a fine-tooth comb, making sure all i's were dotted and t's were crossed).
TBH – I doubt it has much to do with National/ACT – media love gotcha stories about politicians.
"media love gotcha stories about politicians……."
Especially the National/Act toadies and sycophants in the media……nothing to do with National/Act though….of course
Plenty of negative news stories about the poor choices National made about their electoral candidates (and the poor decisions/behaviour of those candidates).
…..nothing to do with Labour….. of course.
Media love bad news stories about politicians. It's the old, 'if it bleeds, it leads' criteria.
And – setting aside all of the gotcha stuff – there actually is a principle at stake. It really is important for democracy that Ministers are required to tell the truth in the House – and, if they stuff up and fail to do so (being human and/or poorly advised), then they have to correct that statement as soon as practicably possible.
Tinetti must surely know this. She's a Cabinet Minister, for heaven’s sake.
I accept with the landscape that much wider there are likely to be more crazies in US politics than in NZ.
I see the Marjorie Taylor Greenes and Jim Jordans and think we're lucky to not have horrible lunatics like them. Then along comes Wayne Brown.

He's lost the plot. Guessed it would happen but not quite so soon.
In reply to my own comment. Did he ever have the plot in the first place?
I'm not sure Anne but what I am sure of is that his backers had their expectations ie sale of assets like the Airport shares but no investigations into better use for the golf courses. (I'm not against areas of land for golf courses per se but every now and again 'we', royal we, need to assess if this is still their highest and best use. and also, that as far as we can there is access, financially, for a range of people to enjoy the game.
