Jobs(.govt.nz) to Australia

Danyl at Dimpost has discovered that National is so serious about (enhancing) the drain of jobs and Kiwis to Australia that they’ve actually outsourced the Government Jobs website (http://jobs.govt.nz/) to… Australia.

While I love irony, surely this says everything about National’s actually commitment to the people of our country.

    Treason!

I dare the main stream media to report this.

Unemployed New Zealanders and struggling NZ businesses pay taxes so these traitors can give jobs to Australians.

  2. PlanetOrphan 2

I wonder what the emotional knee jerk reason for that one was

    • Alinsky 2.1

      Not knee jerk.

We are spiraling into poverty because we accept the neoliberal lie that NZ should be an open market to be exploited and plundered by anyone. We are a nation, a community of people. “God defend New Zealand,” because sure as hell no one else will.

      • PlanetOrphan 2.1.1

Intentionally spending +20% on a NZ Government Jobs website.

They should be in chains before the NZ peoples court M8!

        • framu 2.1.1.1

          “+20%”

where did that figure come from?

if your meaning that it would have cost more to do it in NZ your probably wrong

NZ media companies regularly charge less than australian ones, and at this point we dont even know if the NZ companies (of which there are plenty who could do the job well) got a look in

          • PlanetOrphan 2.1.1.1.1

            Aus / NZ Exchange rate.

            • framu 2.1.1.1.1.1

OK – exhange rate – cool

but thats is taken into account when reviewing quotes – NZ companies can be and still are cheaper in many cases

but thats just speaking from experience – theres probably cases that could disprove that.

  3. vto 3

    That is fucking atrocious.

This National government is clearly not committed to New Zealand.

    What are they thinking?

Why don’t we just out-source everything in the country? Everything. The road builders. The dairy farming. The muffin makers. The train makers. The steel fabricators. The teacheers. The doctors. Just absolutely everything.

Let’s not do anything in NZ, lets all just go to the beach. That is the message being sent. The message is NZ is fucked and we can’t do anything.

    Brain-dead morons.

International joke on us waiting to happen…

There are no jobs in Antartica 🙁

    • fenderviper 5.1

There are jobs in Antartica for bodyguards when NZ PM visits the ice. There are some very nasty gangs of homicidal penguins high on ice down there.

      • McFlock 5.1.1

to be fair, David Attenborough AND Morgan Freeman would probably want to (at the very least) kick Key in the ‘nads.

Brilliant comment. I am in awe of your genius.

None in the Manawatu either. But it definitely heads to Aus then times out.

Look on the bright side… If it continues, we can do what Iceland has done…. 🙂

Unfortunately it looks like Key and co would prefer that we do what Ireland did, and let the thieving bankers steal the lot, and leave us all in the shit for the next 50 years. All that just to fill their greedy pockets.

  7. Cayte Shepherd 7

Key and Co are ensuring NZ is the Precarit.!

read The Precariat by Guy Standing. You may be able to request it through your public Library. I say may because my public library now no longer has funds to purchase new books, as the local district council spent rate payers money on entertainmnet for themselves! I had to purchase it through Fish Pond.

    • rosy 7.1

Thanks for the book reference – imo precarity is what left of centre politics needs to get it’s collective head around and the left leaders are not doing a very good job of it at the moment.

  8. NoseViper (The Nose knows) 8

Isn’t it priceless! Tom Lehrer stopped writing satire because it became too difficult to laugh ironically at what the US government was doing. Deja vu.

It’s having a bob both ways, perhaps could be akin to Two Up a game played by bored Aussie soldiers I think. We are a sovereign nation paying for our own government and services, but our government, to avoid any commerce occurring in NZ apart from dairying and determined enterprise from the hardy, gets jobs done in Australia apparently more cheaply.

These politicians don’t get the work done in their own country, but give it to someone else. That’s not doing their job properly, and they call social welfare beneficiaries slack and lazy! But if they can keep taxes down well that’s a passion for the wealthy who could buy another house on the leverage gained from retaining their annual tax for themselves. And government cannot afford from the depleted taxation, the services for the first-world developed country they say they are fronting.

So in politicians minds we are incorporated into Australia when its business or trade but we don’t officially belong, through being a state and we get diminishing returns from our mutual trade and relationship. Australian banks clip the ticket of profit with considerable tax avoidance, and their government clips the tax ticket of NZ’s working in Oz while acting like a slum landlord when times are difficult for NZs. With friends like that….

  9. insider 9

The State Services Commissioner, Mark Prebble, today launched a new, more user-friendly version of the popular government employment website – jobs.govt.nz

    http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO0708/S00180.htm

Hmmm 2007 last major upgrade. Remind me who was in govt then?

    • felixviper 9.1

What does insider’s link say about where the site was run from in 2007?

      A) nothing
      B) fuck all
      C) zero

Answers on the back of a postcard please.

    • Colonial Viper 9.2

So Labour put through a major upgrade a year before they left office.

      What’s the problem there, brainiac?

    • lprent 9.3

Our last major upgrade was in 2010. Since then the primary server has moved 3 times to 3 different countries and shifted into being largely front-ended on a CDN. All you have to do is tell the OS to install the software, move the files, and the databases.

Moving websites is easy compared to upgrading them. That takes a bit more work

All your link does is indicate a certain unfamiliarity with the technology.

      • felixviper 9.3.1

Given insider’s comment history I’d say s/he is pretty familiar with the technology. Looks more like plain old bog-standard dishonesty.
