There’s a lot of talk about the benefits of moving to a green, sustainable economy but details on what that looks like in practice in New Zealand are often frustratingly thin. Greenpeace is releasing a reportThe Future is Here – that puts meat on the bones. The main thing is getting us off expensive, polluting, imported oil and on to clean, local energy.

There is a way forward – if we are wise enough to take it

Unemployment at record highs, current account deficit in trouble, the economy is stagnant, exodus to Australia, National is failing by every performance measure that they set themselves.  The completely frustrating thing is that there is a clear and rational way forward, if only we have the wisdom to take it.

As a society we can’t seem to bring ourselves to take action on climate change.  We haven’t got the will to save ourselves.
The failure at Copenhagen, and the non event that is Cancun, are in the process of proving that.
It looks like only greed can save us.
