    Prime Minister Chris Hipkins says he will be in hospital with his sick daughter for the next couple of days.

    In social media post, he said both his children have a blood condition called Von Willebrand Syndrome.

    " It means that sometimes when they get bleeding noses or other health issues they need a bit of extra medical help to get sorted.

    "Today my 4 year old is in hospital for some needed treatment, so for the rest of the day while that is happening I’ll be working from the hospital while I’m focused on her.

    "All going well I’ll be back at work soon, but thanks to my colleagues for covering a few engagements over the next couple of days that I’m going to have to miss.
    Lots of New Zealanders rely on the generosity of those who give blood. Thank you to all those who help out people like my little girl."

    One little girl is far more important than an election campaign. smiley

    Here is a sort of version of the Caption Competition we see from time to time on TS.

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/homed/132797547/im-a-proud-landlord-who-houses-14-families-but-times-are-tough

    From the leech landlord;

    "but I know landlords who will no longer admit to being landlords, and landlords who are selling up as they don't like how they are being portrayed, and they don't like how they are being treated by the Government.

    and this gem;

    "There is also the installation of heat pumps and insulation. I don't object to the insulation and draft stopping, but I do object to the heat pumps, which require ongoing maintenance costing around $5 a week. I have to spend $2500 for a heat pump compared to $10 for a fan heater from The Warehouse, which will do the same job. That's an unnecessary $10 a week for five years for the heat pump, plus interest."

    Captions please, be nice.

    Or not.

      He veers between this was an easy way to get rich and pay no tax and onto how Labour is making it harder and it's all, so unfair.

      Maybe the synonym of landlord is "entitled narcissist"?

      If he was of average intelligence he would sell 2 of his properties and have no debt cost against his rent income. But then he would be paying more tax off his rent income and he seems to resent paying any tax, despite his wealth.

      If he wanted to have his mortgage as a cost against rent income he could register a company, but a company has to pay tax on CG at sale.

        The poor, poor man. Maybe he should get out of the landlord business and take up something he seems well-suited to – being a whinger and sad bastard.

      What is he on about? Heat pumps aren't a requirement, there are other ways to heat houses. If the room is small enough to be heated by a $10 fan heater from the Warehouse then install a fixed small heater.

      • joe90 2.3.1

        @ 0.12kW /m2 a 2.4kw fan heater won't cut it in a >20m2 living room.

        Landlords must provide one or more fixed heaters that can directly heat the main living room. The heater(s) must be acceptable types, and must meet the minimum heating capacity required for your main living room.

        […]

        You can’t use an electric heater (except a heat pump) if the required heating capacity for the main living room is over 2.4 kW, unless you are ‘topping up’ existing qualifying heating that was installed before 1 July 2019.

        • Shanreagh 2.3.1.1

          Yes Joe90 and another key point is this. The requirement is for 'fixed heaters'. a plug-in, ie movable, blower heater from The Warehouse is not going to meet this criteria. You can make plug in heaters fixed ie non movable but, horrors, some money needs to be spent to do this.

      I had my upstairs heat pump serviced last week – as I do every year. It cost $90, and would be tax deductible for a landlord.
