The Whitehead report into the circumstances surrounding the failed waiver of diplomatic immunity for the Malaysian attache charged with sexual assault charges has been released and blames the incident on an inadvertently worded email. But questions remain about why Murray McCully only took active steps after media broke the story and the effects his reorganisation of MFAT has had on its ability to do its job.

The disputed facts case involving Tania Billingsley’s complaint against the Malaysian Diplomat suggests the diplomat was engaged in some bizarre drug induced behaviour and completely exonerates Ms Billingsley.  John Ken will have to reconsider his petty refusal to apologise to her.  And Murray McCully’s actions will be closely monitored as soon as the completed report into the invocation of diplomatic immunity is released.

John Key’s only formal apology this year was to serial privacy breacher Cameron Slater for breaching his privacy.  Not to any of the victims of dirty politics or to any of the victims of this Government’s policies.  Why is it that National is continuing to allow Slater to undermine the Prime Minister’s position so effectively?

The Malaysian diplomat charged with serious offences has not returned to New Zealand.  Despite previous assurances given by John Key it appears that his formal extradition will be required.  And as further evidence of incompetence Murray McCully did not read the email advising him that Malaysia had invoked diplomatic immunity for weeks after it had been sent.

Murray McCully must go

Tania Billingsley’s public comments and her suggestion that Murray McCully should resign as Minister of Foreign Affairs are cogent and compelling. For his failure to look after New Zealand’s interests and for his inept handling of issues for Tania he should resign as Minister.

Tania Billingsley’s statement

Tania Billingsley has waived her right to name suppression in the case against the Malaysian diplomat accused of attempted rape – and a Minister of Foreign Affairs who wants the finger pointed at anyone but him.

She’s spoken to 3rd Degree about it, and I think she’s a big damn hero.
