National preparing for November election?

When the Election Day was announced, Young Labour accidentally posted a graphic on Facebook that had the wrong date on it.

The Tory blogosphere were all over it. The Young Nats gloated on Twitter. Whaleoil said it showed Labour couldn’t do maths. KiwiBlog claimed Labour should be disqualified from running the country.

What sweet, sweet irony then to see the National Party’s official website calling for volunteers for the November 26 general election.

I await the breathless denunciations from Farrar, Slater and the Young Nats.

Given the media will/have already announced the winner it would be fitting for National’s supporters to vote post election

    Is this the Civilian effect?

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of the National Party”

    ha ha ha.

    • Jim Nald 2.1

And quite likely also got the wrong preposition.
More appropriate if the party of parasites replace ‘of’ with ‘for’.

    • greywarbler 2.2

Surely the NACTs would pay their ‘volunteers’ Free service to others is So Socialist!

  3. greywarbler 3

There seems to be a big white space at the top of the post under the headings for the NACT newsletter. Is that where it says that they are calling for volunteers for Nov 26th?

    • weka 3.1

      Yep.

Have you tried reinstalling Firefox? If it’s just ts that’s the problem, you could try dumping the cache, or even the cookies. Can’t remember if Firefox has a reset button….

      • greywarbler 3.1.1

Thanks weka Anne suggested when I had problem with Firefox doing shift F5. No good.
This morning had another go no good. Then I went through google and got TS clicked on Home – vanished – Hello World it said enigmatically. Fuhh! This weekend I will talk to my son who is my computer spirit guide! And follow your suggestions.

Then I got on here and had trouble. Put up the 1125 comment which vanished. Shut down started again, working off Opera these times, happened again I think. Did something else on the site and came back and offered some useful bits around the prognostications for the election and some fun. So enjoy reading Brent lad and Tim lad. I have to do something useful!

        • weka 3.1.1.1

Bill was putting up Weekend Social around that time and having some weird things going on. Might just have been a glitch at the ts end.

  4. The Real Matthew 4

The Young Labour gaffe came during a poor sequence for Labour where a string of releases contained spelling mistakes or incorrect information.

If the National party manages a similar string of gaffes it will receive similar coverage.

    • framu 4.1

      “it will receive similar coverage.”

from whale oil, the young nats and the penguin?

whatever mate – your fooling yourself

    • Tracey 4.2

Mr Hooten was here yesterday selectively correcting errors. Should we expect to see him again? Farrar seems to have missed the glaring lie by Mr Key in his costing of Labour’s ECE announcement.

  5. greywarbler 5

Funny, very. Especially as I have looked at this post a few times and found that unexpectedly the screen has filled with NACTs newsletter, didn’t appear at all at first. So Whaleoil and Farrar noticed the mistake by Labour, now NACT can amuse them. Let’s wait and see.

Meanwhile Brent Edwards being thoughtful, with facts for garnish.
    http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/political/240700/power-play,-with-brent-edwards
[Key] took the opportunity to chastise Labour for its record in government, saying its spending had got out of control. Mr Key says in Labour’s last five years in government spending had increased on average two-point-seven billion dollars a year while National had increased spending just 250 million dollars a year.
Since 2009, however, core public spending increased from $64 to $70.3 billion in 2013, a six billion dollar increase in four to five years.

Labour finance spokesperon David Parker said no.
.Both are right and both are wrong.
Spending did go up under Labour but at the same time it still ran large surpluses. Much of that was used to repay debt which meant the National-led Government was in a strong financial position to respond to the impact of the Global Financial Crisis. National gives Labour little credit for that but had those surpluses not been banked the Government and country would have faced a more difficult time getting through the crisis.

In turn Mr Parker has criticised National for borrowing more heavily which has increased the Government’s net debt to $60 billion, up from $10 billion in 2008.
What, though, would have Labour done? Would it have cut, rather than freeze, spending in order to keep debt down?

For light relief – Funny but with some serious results. Tim blew up a big balloon, passing out twice, while doing so. And heard that its size was an indication of the amount of CO2 put out by aircraft – and you have to listen for further details.

    Comedian Tim FitzHigham recreates history’s wildest bets ( 12′ 51″ )
    http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon
09:40 Multi award-winning British comedian, author, and self-described
‘shenaniganist’ Tim FitzHigham is bringing a show to the New Zealand International Comedy Festival called The Gambler about his recreations of history’s ten most harebrained bets. His comedy career so far has led to Tim claiming three world records: the longest distance traveled in paper boat, blowing up the world’s largest balloon (only passing out a couple of times), and the only crossing of the English Channel in a bath tub (completing the last 120 miles on a broken shoulder). He also has a European record for the longest washing line to be erected, has had a toilet named after him, and was once described by fellow comedian Eddie Izzard as being, “unhinged… Completely without hinges”.

The toilet is a beautiful British artifact with a picture of Tim in his bathtub going across the British Channel under the porcelain glaze and with some Brit humour. An amendment was made to the usual proud stamp of Made in Great Britain, and altered slightly with the ‘e’ off Made.

  6. TightyRighty 6

you had to look pretty hard to find that didn’t you?

oooohhh hooo hoo, you got them there. bet the nats are quivering in their boots you may find another typo.

As opposed to couriering them straight to the public and media like Labour.

    • It’s a mere two clicks from the homepage. It might be telling that you don’t think the sign-up page for volunteers is a high-profile one in an election year.

      • weka 6.1.1

Two clicks is probably a very long way for TR.

      • Tracey 6.1.2

“It might be telling that you don’t think”

If you had finished your sentence here you would have been 100% accurate.

He does his thinking based on Farrar and Slater, hence he hasn’t commented on Mr key’s made up sums on the ECE costs. Nor has farrar, HootOn or Slater

    • mickysavage 6.2

Come on TR the original Young Labour graphic was produced by an enthusiastic amateur. They made a mistake and then Slater and Farrar unleashed on them. The response on Kiwiblog in particular was distasteful.

Then your side does the same thing and you think it is not a story.

The left’s response has been much more gentle but the irony and sense of karma are wonderful!

  7. captain hook 7

The National party is on the run. They know that the country has had enough of them and their lies and prevaricating and general mis-management.
They have had their turn and its now time to turn the graspers and the jobsworths out and stop them stealing any mor eof the states assets.
They are going to get a big fright very soon.

  8. Phil 8

2011 election was on November 26th. So they haven’t updated the page since then.

A bit daft, but not egg-on-face silly.

@Stephanie – equally likely reason: they already have lots of volunteers ready to go, and aren’t desperate to get more on board.

    • freedom 8.1

Yes Phil, as you say, a bit silly and hardly worth getting upset about. Much like the clumsy use of an incorrect participle that somehow ignited two weeks of hysterical ranting from the MSM and the RWNJ’s all over NZ.

The Young Nats though have always amused and puzzled me. It is amazing how many ignorant sycophantic youth are out there, all willing to help their parents sell off what is left of their country before they even get their own grubby mits on it.

What I never understood is what do Young Nats think is going to be left for them when they are given their trust account passwords and let loose on the wilderness? Shares in BigCorp is all that will be on offer. I have had numerous dialogues over the years with those declaring themselves Young Nats, some are even in my own family. The crap these kids have been sold and the myopic viewpoint they share is what I can not fathom. Even the bright ones seem to have been ‘Stepford-ed’ since birth.

The modus operandi of the elite has been to consume all they can regardless of consequence. The working class got used up pretty quickly, so the ravenous beast moved onto the middle class, pretty soon they will have nothing left and will devour their own in the scramble to be in that all important 1%.

Social anthropologists wandering through the wastelands to come, will look at the late 20th & early 21st century with despair and sorrow, not for what was lost but given all we have, what was never built in the first place.

      • Lanthanide 8.1.1

        • freedom 8.1.2.1

          thanks for that idlegus,

          this bit … ++good

A world leading Digital Bill of Rights would position NZ as the Switzerland of data and would attract the next generation of global digital companies and entrepreneurs. Lets put the green power (and cool water) from Manapouri and investment in world class infrastructure to make the economics as well as the legal framework a no-brainer for NZ as the destination for the digital future. And kick out highly subsidized old-economy aluminum smelters in the process.

If we take the dwindling beauty and massive commercial responsibilities of the flora and fauna of Aotearoa, extrapolate the ravages of intensive dairy more mining and ever-deeper drilling, this simple massively lucrative idea has to be the definition of a no-brainer.

    • That’s not equally likely at all – a party which isn’t actively trying to get more people on board and engaged is a party which is either not trying or thoroughly too assured of its success.

  9. TightyRighty 9

    @captain hook, weka,

Lol whatever’s. You guise are in la la land.

    @stephanie Rodgers

Two clicks from a URL you have to navigate to is a lot different from appearing on the feed page of one of new Zealand’s most popular websites and the largest social network in the world. But if you say it’s the same, I guess national got got. Wait a minute……

  10. captain hook 10

I dont understand all this la la talk and keyboard symbols.
    Thats the National Party Way.
    Confuse people with bullshit.
Well their string is just about run out.
Shifty and his mob will be gone by November 26 and nobody will remember them at all.

  11. TightyRighty 11

@captain hook – you haven’t clicked that 26/11 is a typo by national have you? go home Moran!!

  12. Tracey 12

Why on earth do people go into moderation for putting an “e” in HootOn’s name?

Does he go into instant moderation because the likelihood of his post containing a falsehood is very very high?

[lprent: Encourages people to use the correct spelling. Worked for klark, cuntliffe (and silent T), etc elc, I do it for all sides when the joke gets too old and moves into the “boring as hell” phase. ]

  13. captain hook 13

I dont give a shit. National are all lowbrow neanderthals and the only thing they can count is their money. most of which they got from robbing the poor. The one thing they can count on is that they will be gone on election night.
they must be morans if they cant even get that right but mostly they are idiotes and that is a real word and not an Irish one.

  14. Tanz 14

    Is it a paying job?
