Not much of a rugby fan myself, but we ran posts for the All Whites’ big games, so it seems churlish not to for the All Blacks. As I’m sure everyone and their dog knows, the ABs play Argentina tonight, 8:30 pm at Eden Park. May the best team win.
The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
Lets hope the French aren’t like the National Government who told everybody it was ‘ THEIR TURN”.
I’m looking forward to the Sth Africa vs Aussie match. It’s the more significant one in deciding on the possible finalists, IMO. Should be a tight match.
Scheduling my grocery shop now.
Let’s not forget the Phoenix play their first game tonight!
Is that you, Mr P[deleted]? Glad teh Nix got a point on the road.

And Key begins the official countdown to his ‘Mandela’ moment.

May the BETTER team win
A creditable draw to the Phoenix. Paston was on fire.
After a slower start the AB’s have a deserved decisive win over Argentina. Well done fellas.
The AB’s win last night wasn’t VERY convincing. I reckon next week’s game against Aussie is up for grabs by either team.
What I found unconvincing was the way the ABs held back. I understand that the more able teams will warm up on clearly less capable teams and if the ABs were to only play teams that evenly matched them, there wouldn’t be much competition. But it’s getting painful to watch, bit like a fighter tying one hand behind his back, doing the occasional jig and taking beer breaks during a boxing match. Because there have been so many mismatches of skill in a short period, it’s beginning to look conceited.
Congratulations Mils, All Black Centurion
How about a bit of balance, here and elsewhere? Women play sport too, you know. The Silver Ferns just blitzed the English 2 games in a row; I guess they should have known better than to do it while the boys were playing with their somewhat misshapen balls… I don’t think the games even made it onto mainstream TV. We did get a bit of reportage last year when they were defending their world cup, but nothing like the blitzkrieg that regularly happens around men’s rugby. And of course they don’t have the sponsorship to make a career out of sport.
If it comes to that, I seem to remember that our women’s team are (and have been for many years) the world rugby champs. Don’t hear a lot about that, do we? (And yes, I know fewer woman play rugby – that’s why I started with the netball comparison.)
