So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade — we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation.”

   They’ve kept her away from the press for so long, I thought they’d be prepping her. Instead they’ve been inventing whole new kinds of stupid.

   Give that woman some kudos, she’s the foreign diplomatic link between the USA and Russia. This is an experienced woman.

   Oh, but wouldn’t Putin just call George Bush? So unless Palin is the satellite link then I must endeavour to think that perhaps she’s not quite as experienced as she wants us to believe.

    My favourite translation of this Alaskan version of Little Britain’s Vicky Pollard interview is from American Prospect:

    The question was simple. The answer came from some dreamscape I’ve never visited. “That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in.     Try to parse that. The bailout helps health reformers by bankrupting the government? We need to accompany our tax reductions with reduced taxes, and pair that with tax relief for Americans? How does the bailout connect to trade, or to job growth? And even the syntax is falling apart: She corrects “help” to “helping,” but “helping” doesn’t make sense in that paragraph.

    I think you need to get over it, but that would be difficult since it appears you wouldn’t recognise communism if it nationalised your industry, created a classless society and kicked you in the balls/ovaries.

    Last I checked George W Bush, (kind of) elected twice by the American public, was not exactly renowned for his clear fand effective communication style, so I’m not sure Republican voters will see Palin’s difficulties as any reason not to back her ticket…

    Unfortunately, she’s just another Pauline Hanson. But because she is pretty and has an attractive family somehow her ignorance and bigotry is acceptable. Anyone following the Doonsbury cartoon in the DomPost about the Sarah Palin action doll? Very clever.
    But it’s all as much a challenge to feminism as the current US financial crisis is to capitalism.

    RW – Unfortunately, physical attractiveness matters a great deal in politics if you are female. Look at the bad press Helen C has had in her career based on her looks, clothes etc (although quietly she is much admired by women). But, for example, has anyone made any comments about JK’s looks or his dress sense, or what he should wear when he meets the Queen – and what if he chose to wear a kilt?

    Anyhow if Sarah Palin looked like Pauline Hanson she wouldn’t have created the stir, the polling blip for the GOP, or become the darling of the women’s mags. Her policies would have featured more, initially, rather than latterly, as is happening now. Clinton wouldn’t have called her hot. In fact, I doubt if she would have been chosen as VP candidate at all.

    Rest easy Rex. The whole point of US ‘democracy’ is for the financial institutions to promote dedicated idiots into the role of president and vp. They are puppet figureheads created for the purpose of giving an appearance of democracy while the real decision makers pull strings, call the shots, and generally get on with ‘business as usual’ hidden behind the façade of US democracy and accountable to no-one.

    And nuclear weapons, while good for business in many respects (contracts, population control etc), are disastrous and useless for business if used.

    After tracking down a couple of reports of malware warnings. Two unrelated problems showed up when I was hunting.

    Apparently some firewalls and malware detectors are objecting to the google analytics javascript that is at the end of the pages (you can see it in the source).

    It probably got triggered by a recent malware

    It looks like that one got fixed rapidly, but still wound up in some malware databases. BTW: Have a look at http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=1053 for amusement.

    There was also a .jar file that was being pushed from something in the cbs.com site link. It was probably by something intermediate in the network rather than cbs itself. I had a look at the options that our link to cbs had on, and decided they were dicey after reading some reports, so I removed it and replaced with the much simplier youtube link. Effectively the cbs link was requiring far too much access to client machines.

    It is a pain and wasted quite a few hours because the first thing I did was an extensive check through the sites code and data. That was a waste of time because it was all ok.

    Sorry RW – will try and be more precise. What i meant was that because Pauline Hanson wasn’t pretty what she said was reported. Sr Sarah P it was her looks that was the story first and only belatedly do we hear what she actually thinks for herself (and they are more or less incoherent).

    Further the comment by Bill makes the comment by John Key in the article in the SST by Ruth Laugeson et al that he was only following orders in his work with Merrill Lynch – even more of a worry.

    Wouldnt be the first time the US security services have used CBS as cover to spy on persons deemed worthy of interest. Since we are non Citizens the skys the limit.
    Business people report that intrusions via wireless links are attempted by the Chinese security services as soon as they arrive in China .
