    This woman is a joke.

John McCain must really hate America.

  3. r0b 3

Perhaps McCain should have gone with this woman instead?

    OH…
    MY…
    GOD!!??!!

    Is this for real?

    Nahhhh???!!!

  5. Dom 5

My god, she’s dumber than I even imagined! This is great!

  6. Matthew Pilott 6

I can not access this at work.

Does she have a casual thought towards invading Russia?

cap agony long – not a welcome portent…

Matt. P. \\not sure if it’s in this clip, but from the same interview as reported by washingtonmonthly.com

Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700 billion helping middle-class families who are struggling with health care, housing, gas and groceries? Allow them to spend more, and put more money into the economy, instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?”

Palin, in a rambling and largely incoherent response, responded,

“That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in. Where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh, it’s got to be about job creation, too. Shoring up our economy, and getting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade — we have got to see trade as opportunity, not as, uh, competitive, um, scary thing, but one in five jobs created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation.”

They’ve kept her away from the press for so long, I thought they’d be prepping her. Instead they’ve been inventing whole new kinds of stupid.

Wait, wait, wait… She said that when Putin wants to come and talk to America then he comes to Alaska.

Give that woman some kudos, she’s the foreign diplomatic link between the USA and Russia. This is an experienced woman.

Oh, but wouldn’t Putin just call George Bush? So unless Palin is the satellite link then I must endeavour to think that perhaps she’s not quite as experienced as she wants us to believe.

  9. Matthew Pilott 9

Cheers PB – that discourse reminded me of Miss Teen South Carolina. You may recall the story – but which was the worse answer? (And who has the better excuse for it?)

Question: Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?

Miss Teen South Carolina: “I personally believe the U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh…people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and…I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our…

Genius! I cannot wait for her debates with Biden!

  13. Felix 13

For anyone having trouble with the video, the youtube version is here.

  14. DeeDub 14

    Dom:
“Genius! I cannot wait for her debates with Biden!”

Me too. But…. maybe Ms. Palin is just ‘biden’ her time (groan) until she unleashes a torrent of intelligent argument that will floor Joe and win the election for the Reps in one fell swoop. Hah!

Yep, and John Key will do the same to Helen in debate….. Double Hah!

Surely the Right has better minds than this with which to front their cause?

How embarrassing for them. Bring it on.

  15. East Wellington Superhero 15

    Communism lost. Get over it.

  16. My favourite translation of this Alaskan version of Little Britain’s Vicky Pollard interview is from American Prospect:

The question was simple. The answer came from some dreamscape I’ve never visited. “That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, were ill about this position that we have been put in.

Try to parse that. The bailout helps health reformers by bankrupting the government? We need to accompany our tax reductions with reduced taxes, and pair that with tax relief for Americans? How does the bailout connect to trade, or to job growth? And even the syntax is falling apart: She corrects “help” to “helping,” but “helping” doesn’t make sense in that paragraph.

  17. Matthew Pilott 17

We’re well over it, EWS. We’re pining for the fjords, if you didn’t notice.

I think you need to get over it, but that would be difficult since it appears you wouldn’t recognise communism if it nationalised your industry, created a classless society and kicked you in the balls/ovaries.

  18. Balls – Matt – very definitely balls. Not very big ones or frequently used ones either I would surmise…

  19. Vanilla Eis 19

Dom: Last I heard, McCain decided that the economic crisis was more pressing than the first presidential debate, so they pushed it back a little… into the VP debate slot. So now there won’t be one.

  20. gobsmacked 20

EW Superhero must have missed the news from the United Soviets of America.

Comrade Bush and the People’s Congress say: all your banks are belong to us.

  21. Julie 21

Last I checked George W Bush, (kind of) elected twice by the American public, was not exactly renowned for his clear fand effective communication style, so I’m not sure Republican voters will see Palin’s difficulties as any reason not to back her ticket…

  22. Ari 22

Looks like she has as much difficulty with going outside of her talking points as John Key does, sadly.

Still, at least the village idiot is in the vice-presidential position this time. It’s too bad the McAngermanagement is on the top of the ticket, though.

  23. ghostwhowalks 23

I dont know about Bush not being clear in his communication, look at todays sound bite!!!

“If money isn’t loosened up, this sucker could go down,’

Oh yes he was talking about his place in history ( we hope)

  24. Janet 24

Unfortunately, she’s just another Pauline Hanson. But because she is pretty and has an attractive family somehow her ignorance and bigotry is acceptable. Anyone following the Doonsbury cartoon in the DomPost about the Sarah Palin action doll? Very clever.
But it’s all as much a challenge to feminism as the current US financial crisis is to capitalism.

  25. Pascal's bookie 25

    Communism lost. Get over it.

    WTF?

The only thing I can think of is that EWS, in spite of the craptackular performance of John ‘Nation first’ McCain’s pick for his VP, just can’t bring himself to criticise the GOP. Just.can’t.do.it. Pathetic.

But can’t defend the pick on account of Palin’s obvious paste eating levels of stupidity, so just farts out some ridiculous irrelevant shite about communism having lost.

Can’t stand to see the GOP mocked, can’t defend them, so say something stupid!

Hope it made him feel better.

  26. Rex Widerstrom 26

    Janet says:

…she’s just another Pauline Hanson. But because she is pretty…

    Um, excuse me?

Not that prettiness matters any when it comes to politics, but flinging round the words “Pauline Hanson” and “pretty” in same sentence can only lead one to ask, “Please explain?” 😀

  27. Janet 27

RW – Unfortunately, physical attractiveness matters a great deal in politics if you are female. Look at the bad press Helen C has had in her career based on her looks, clothes etc (although quietly she is much admired by women). But, for example, has anyone made any comments about JK’s looks or his dress sense, or what he should wear when he meets the Queen – and what if he chose to wear a kilt?

Anyhow if Sarah Palin looked like Pauline Hanson she wouldn’t have created the stir, the polling blip for the GOP, or become the darling of the women’s mags. Her policies would have featured more, initially, rather than latterly, as is happening now. Clinton wouldn’t have called her hot. In fact, I doubt if she would have been chosen as VP candidate at all.

  28. Rex Widerstrom 28

Janet: Ahhhhh I see, I mistakenly thought you were saying both had been given a bit of a free pass because both were pretty. I agree with you re Palin… when you read transcribed gibberish like that kindly provided by Pascal’s bookie above, it’s enough to give you chills thinking this woman could be a heartbeat away from controlling nuclear weapons.

“I know foreign policy because I come from Alaska” is right up there on the lunatic justification scale with “Dianne Yates belongs on the Food Safety Authority because she comes from the Waikato”.

  29. Bill 29

“…it’s enough to give you chills thinking this woman could be a heartbeat away from controlling nuclear weapons.”

Rest easy Rex. The whole point of US ‘democracy’ is for the financial institutions to promote dedicated idiots into the role of president and vp. They are puppet figureheads created for the purpose of giving an appearance of democracy while the real decision makers pull strings, call the shots, and generally get on with ‘business as usual’ hidden behind the façade of US democracy and accountable to no-one.

And nuclear weapons, while good for business in many respects (contracts, population control etc), are disastrous and useless for business if used.

After tracking down a couple of reports of malware warnings. Two unrelated problems showed up when I was hunting.

Apparently some firewalls and malware detectors are objecting to the google analytics javascript that is at the end of the pages (you can see it in the source).

It probably got triggered by a recent malware
    http://groups.google.com/group/analytics-help-troubleshoot/browse_thread/thread/7f354a982a54e4d2/7c760eb0ff22fdcd?lnk=raot

It looks like that one got fixed rapidly, but still wound up in some malware databases. BTW: Have a look at http://blogs.zdnet.com/Google/?p=1053 for amusement.

There was also a .jar file that was being pushed from something in the cbs.com site link. It was probably by something intermediate in the network rather than cbs itself. I had a look at the options that our link to cbs had on, and decided they were dicey after reading some reports, so I removed it and replaced with the much simplier youtube link. Effectively the cbs link was requiring far too much access to client machines.

It is a pain and wasted quite a few hours because the first thing I did was an extensive check through the sites code and data. That was a waste of time because it was all ok.

  32. Janet 32

Sorry RW – will try and be more precise. What i meant was that because Pauline Hanson wasn’t pretty what she said was reported. Sr Sarah P it was her looks that was the story first and only belatedly do we hear what she actually thinks for herself (and they are more or less incoherent).

Further the comment by Bill makes the comment by John Key in the article in the SST by Ruth Laugeson et al that he was only following orders in his work with Merrill Lynch – even more of a worry.

  33. ghostwhowalks 33

Wouldnt be the first time the US security services have used CBS as cover to spy on persons deemed worthy of interest. Since we are non Citizens the skys the limit.
Business people report that intrusions via wireless links are attempted by the Chinese security services as soon as they arrive in China .
    http://blogs.wsj.com/chinajournal/2008/05/30/us-investigates-laptop-spying-suspicions/
In fact some suggest senior business people ‘throwaway’ any laptops they use in China and never bring them back to connect to their own networks.

Good grief, it’s like listening to a 10-year old who’s just finished a project on ‘other countries’. My favourite line:
“Our next door neighbours are foreign countries”.
Well strike me down with a feather, that’s the kind of intellect we need at the top of the world’s most powerful nation.
