I don't think that is correct, though I would love it to be the case. Would be hilarious to see NAtional and ACT suddenly drop to 45% and have to go begging to Winston.
Searching for any silver linings at all on this grim night, I was thinking that at least none of the bizarre fringe parties manage to get a toehold. Then I remember Winston is back ...
It would lead to a lot of clamour to get rid of the Maori electorates.
Will Labour actually get enough MPs to hold a leadership election?
Everyone knows ACT are just the paramilitary wing of National, so it is effectively a victory for one party.
I would like to apologise to New Zealand for giving two ticks to Labour. I should have remembered I never manage to vote for the winning party. I note the Greens have done better than they have in the elections where I have voted for them.
Chris Luxon's kids are better at talking to the media than he is. I want them to run the country, not him.
As it become more likely National and Act will be able to govern alone, I would like to announce I was right in my prediction - the polls were indeed wrong. Just the opposite way to how I thought they would err.
Almost 20% counted and no sense that the numbers are going to move much. I suspect Labour will be lucky to scrape over 30%.
On TVNZ Jessica Mutch McKay smile beatifically as she says Winston Peters might not be needed ... a lot of journalists might be cackling with glee at the thought of his frustration.
Shane Jones on TVNZ. This night is getting worse ...
Yup. In (some) previous elections Labour has hauled it back, 1% party vote per 10% counted. Though in others the initial numbers dbarely change at all. Which will we get tonight. I predict NACT will end up at about 45% and be asking Winston to help out.
It would be hilarious if - after all his hard work getting back into the public eye and above the 5% threshold, he ended up there himself, unneeded and uncalled for ...
Shit balls those early votes. BUT that will probably change. Remember 2005 where National started well ahead and Labour clawed them back. Or is this Labour's 2001?
And Simon Bridges. Not exactly stellar talking heads.
Will our next PM be called Chris, Chris ... or Winston?
Hi.
It would be even better if we could be even more boring equal and crime free. We should be aiming for Scandinavian levels of boringness.
In fairness, I imagine if the IDF had killed those 214 people over a single day, it might have been considered newsworthy. We are cynically inured to the casual daily barbarisms on both sides and it needs a truly outstanding effort to attract our attention...
It is a small country with only 4 million people in it where nothing very interesting is happening a lot of the time.
I predict none of these things will happen. Well, the Hamas leadership and Israeli leadership might change, but will also stay the same.
These results are a wonderful Rorschach into which every one can read what they want.
A, so the Long March to the left, seeking the promised land of ideological purity has begun with demonising of someone for daring to have a job? Workers of all lands unite!
Well, one can learn from reverses or pretend they did not happen. A bit of reflection can be a good thing. Or, I suppose, we could opt for the Left's preferred option which is blame shifting, factionising and self-destruction in the never ending conflict ...
Since when was a 'claim to fame' a requirement for being a politician in Aotearoa? You're writing off her family activist history, her education and years of political work as irrelevant to her success. That's such a diminishing stance for you to take.
Reality has a way of being there whether or not you accept it. That's what makes it real.
So, now the evidence has been provided (3.1.1.2) any comment? At least an acknowledgement that, yup, Varoufakis DID claim - apparently seriously - that Clinton considered murdering Assange? Though I'd have thought a smart cookie like you - with so much ...
Would love to see that link lurge. But rather off topic Debate the ideas, not the man . Link provided above. And in this case, the ideas define the man. By mouthing ludicrous Trump level absurdities, he makes himself a joke. I assume he knows what he is ...
gotta link for that varoufakis accusation..? https://twitter.com/i/status/1346771538511613953 Knock yourself out.
The other day I encountered Varoufakis claiming in deadly seriousness that Hillary Clinton plotting to assassinate Julian Assange, based on some unsubstantiated comments that were 'reported' on a blog. He's got about as much credibility as Donald Trump and...
Ardern is not exactly Leon Trotsky.
