For the Auckland Labour party members (and others) going the the candidates meeting on Sunday has been moved. This e-mail turned up today (from Moira Coatsworth)
Due to the huge amount of interest in Sunday’s meet the leadership candidates meeting the venue has changed to a larger venue.
It is now at the Fisher and Pakel Auditorium in the Owen Glenn Building at the University of Auckland City Campus, but still from 2.30 – 4.30pm
The Owen Glenn Building is on Grafton Road just off Symonds st. There is parking on the lower five floors of the Owen G. Glenn Building. It is accessed from Grafton Road, at the traffic lights opposite the onramp to the Port and just below the School of Engineering Building. This parking costs $5.
I can’t say that I am surprised. There have been more inches written about these meetings than any political meeting that I can remember since Orewa I, especially in the blogs.
If you aren’t current member or just a supporter? Well you can sign up for Labour at the door for only a few bucks. That has to be one of the most innovative techniques I have ever seen for encouraging people to rejoin and join the party. It has been quite amusing reading of the interested greens, members last current in 85, and even just general supporters putting their money up for membership to get in.
I’ll be paying cash at the door because I had a heart attack about the time that the bill arrived this year (and no I can’t remember if there was a cause and effect 🙂 ). But wanting to go to this meeting did get me active enough to find out that I could set up a direct debit on Labour’s website. I have been meaning to do it for quite a while for a low maintenance donation and sub so I don’t have to remember to pay this trivial annual bill again. Last time I looked a few years ago the website would only take credit cards – now it takes eftpos (finally!).

There were so many great questions from the floor that only about a third of those who wanted to say something were able to do so before the three hours was up. The professionals were awesome, and I came out of there convinced that I’d be proud to support whoever the caucus elects to lead us all.
