All eyes are on the Labour Conference today, as they should be, none the less this is an interesting snippet from The Herald:

Dotcom: There’s proof Key knew I was here

Kim Dotcom says he has proof that Prime Minister John Key has lied about not knowing who the Megaupload millionaire was until just before the raid on his mansion. But Dotcom says he will not reveal his evidence until he is in court.

Dotcom told TV3’s Q+A programme this morning that Mr Key knew about the German-born millionaire living in New Zealand before he was briefed on January 19 about the next day’s planned police raid on his mansion.

Mr Key has continually denied such claims, repeatedly saying it was the first time he became aware of the Megaupload founder.

“He is running around naked and telling everybody he has clothes on,” Dotcom told Q+A. “Everyone can see he’s naked. It doesn’t make any sense. “I know for a fact that John Key knew before January 19. “It’s going to be a topic in our court hearing so I don’t want to reveal too much.” …

    my popcorn is in

  2. I figured there was some more evidence somewhere , you go DotCom, good on ya M8!

    • mike e 2.1

The only proof you need when Shonkey lies is when he talks!

    • If Dotcom has the evidence I look forward to seeing Key smacked with it.

But fuck Dotcom too, the guy is a crook all the same. You’d be a fool to venerate that asshole. You think he is in this because of integrity and loyalty to truth and honour?

      • PlanetOrphan 2.2.1

“You think he is in this because of integrity and loyalty to truth and honour?”

Nup, just some guy defending his right too exist.
The Gnats’ don’t give you a choice, that’s the point really.

      • felix 2.2.2

“But fuck Dotcom too, the guy is a crook all the same. You’d be a fool to venerate that asshole. You think he is in this because of integrity and loyalty to truth and honour?”

True. There’s a great irony in the way he’s become a hero of the anti-copyright crowd, who apparently think he’s great for sticking it to all those nasty companies who enrich themselves by exploiting other people’s work.

But there’s also a bit of poetic justice in the way this is unfolding. Dotcom is only here because assholes like Key and Banks think megarich dudes are so cool that they wrote a special law just so people like Dotcom could come and live here.

  3. QoT 3

The iPredict on it has shot up. I assume because KDC is smart enough to bet on himself.

  4. ghostwhowalksnz 4

Key will just say , “he forgot’ , or “didnt read the email” – a Wall St favourite, just like his doozy , ‘the broker didnt tell me’

Just like all the other times.

Hell just laugh it off, saying he meets fat Germans all the time

    • Or …. Whatya mean he joined the National party and here’s his membership number ?

    • felix 4.2

Key might have stitched himself up with his big mouth this time. When he denied having heard Dotcom’s name, he unnecessarily added a little phrase to the end of his sentence which was intended to make his story more credible but actually cut his wiggle room down to nothing.

I think his words were “unusual as it is” and I think they might come back to haunt him.

  5. Add it to the pile of steaming lies that will be John Key’s legacy to this country. We’re gonna need a bigger cesspit Jim.

Come on Key, how could you work with Krieger two months after Krieger left currency trading; unless of course you lied in your May 1991 statement to the Serious Fraud Office.

  6. burt 6

This is just like when Owen Glenn said Peters was full of it… Oh that’s right Labour denigrated him as being old and confused and we moved on … How funny that now it’s really really important that the truth must come out and people must be accountable…. Of course lets not forget that Clark continued to take Peters on his word through all that ….

Now we need integrity – after lowering the bar so low for your own team – good luck with that !!!

    • Craig Glen Eden 6.1

No Burt your scenario is different and you know it. For things to be the same it would need to be Helen Clarke’s word against Owen Glenns witch it never was. This scenario is John Key saying I didnt know and I wouldnt forget knowing and Dotcom saying he knew and I can prove it.

Poor try Burt please try harder!

    • One Tāne Huna 6.2

That’s all the excuse you need, is it? One thing you got right: Key’s ethics are in the gutter. Oh, and as I recall Owen Glenn wasn’t threatened with extradition to a Hollywood kangeroo court. Nor was he subject to violent arrest, illegal search and seizure, illegal surveillance by spies under the direct control of the Prime Minister, and police perjury.

      Yes Burt, water is dry.

    • burt 6.3

I know guys, it’s different when the red team (or their poodles) tell us to move on while telling big porkies … It’s in the best interest of NZ when they do it – but the blue team … Oh the scandal …. heads must roll…

Keep making excuses for the same level of self serving behaviour from your own team while demanding accountability from the other team – it’s the myopic partisan way and you do it so well.

      • Crashcart 6.3.1

Hold on Burt, aren’t you the one saying that it’s OK for Key to push it under the rug because you think HC did it first? I bet you were calling for HC’s and Winnies guts for garters when the Owen Glenn bollocks was going down. Oh by the way wasn’t Winnie stood down or stood himself down during the saga? Being that Johnny Boy is the one directly involved here when is he going to stand himself down Burt?

Thats right you are all for calling hypocrit to try and divert from your own hypocrisy.

        • burt 6.3.1.1

No, if Key’s proven to have lied he should step down – not tell us to move on. Bring it on Dotcom…

  7. dotcom lives in keys electorate and was the richest person in the neighbourhood. he was also known as generous to politicians(john banks, step forward) so, it is stretching credibility that key or his electorate chairman didnt go to the dotcom mansion with their hand out. I wonder if their was a brown envelope with a large cheque involved.

  8. ianmac 8

What will be very interesting will be what Mr Key does about it.
    a. Call in the hit men.
    b. Deny any knowledge.
    c. Say, “Oh that Kim Dotcom. I thought you meant the other one.”
    d. Accuse David Shearer of Dirty Tricks.
    e. Get Minister Parata to answer any questions on his behalf.
    f. Employ a well known Psychiatrist to validate his amnesic problems.
    g. Employ a well known political journalist to throw a paddy in the key defence panel.
    h. Rush through a piece of Legislation that puts a permanent gag on all statements coming from the Dotcom camp.
    i. Deport him under new legislation rushed through under urgency. (Any resident over 120kg banned.)

You see there are plenty of viable options available to Mr Key.

    • burt 8.1

      j. Pass retrospective validations pleasing the party faithful who care not for integrity or principles because they are just foot soldiers for a corrupt and self serving administration.

    • rosy 8.2

      c. sounds likely, then make a joke, apologise for misleading parliament and get Paula to make up some new stuff about DPB recipients.

      • felix 8.2.1

He can no longer use “c” thanks to his big mouth. He went to extra effort to inform us that thanks to the uniqueness of Dotcom’s name there’s no way he could’ve forgotten it.

        • rosy 8.2.1.1

True, he’s in deep trouble then, so I’ll pick d. and then get Paula to make up some new stuff about DPB recipients.

  9. OneTrack 9

Why doesn’t dotcom release this information now? What does it have to do with his extradition court hearing?

    • felix 9.1

      None of your business OneTrick.

    • ianmac 9.2

He says that part of his defence against extradition is that the NZ Government made political actions to please the USA. Thus involvement if proven could jeopardise the case against him.
If Mr Dotcom does have this proof, then a PM repeatedly lying to the House would/should become a serious issue. In the meantime Mr Key and his advisers will be very busy covering any gaps in Mr Key’s story. (I feel sure that a strategic decision was made a long time ago to Keep Mr Key’s name well out of involvement.)

      • burt 9.2.1

then a PM repeatedly lying to the House would/should become a serious issue.

Precedent says the only serious consequence is Key will have to tell us to move on … and we will.

        • McFlock 9.2.1.1

          true dat.

But then his sense of entitlement reminds of teenagers who escalate their behaviour because you “can’t do anything about it” – and their overconfidence means that more often than not they cross the threshold into a world of shit being done about it.

Whether he reaches that point before 2014 is another matter. At the moment I sadly think there’s only a <5% chance of him getting locked up.

  10. xtasy 10

Maybe Key’s electorate secretary sent Dotcom a “Welcome to NZ, Mr Dotcom” kind of christmas card in December 2010? It may have happend with the intention of attracting a new vote from a new resident in the electorate. Well, would that not be some “proof”?

But then it is again possible to talk his way out of this, saying he does not know everything his “underlings” do every day.

    Just a speculative thought.

    • felix 10.1

“But then it is again possible to talk his way out of this, saying he does not know everything his “underlings” do every day.”

What, and he didn’t find out, as soon as this became a story, every single possible contact that might have been made in his name or by his staff?

Impossible for anyone to believe he didn’t do this. So assuming he did, it’s not going to look good for him if it turns out he there was some contact and he hasn’t mentioned it in all the questioning and interviewing on the subject.

As Nixon found out, it’s not the act, but the lie that gets you.

  11. infused 11

See past the bullshit. Dotcom is as smile and wave as key is. Docom has nothing to lose and you retards are lapping it up. Just like the second international cable.

    • ianmac 11.1

I think that Mr Dotcom might be a very clever man. It would be most unlikely that he would not have something more significant than a Christmas Card. We will see in due course.

      • AmaKiwi 11.1.1

I am disappointed Dotcom did not give a seminar on public relations at the Labour conference. He’s a heck of a lot better at it than most of our politicians.

        • Colonial Viper 11.1.1.1

That’s what you get for having real money to buy real expert advisors.

        • RJL 11.1.1.2

Dotcom does have it a bit easier though. He is only trying to convince us that Key/Banks/Police/GCSB/FBI are behaving dubiously in his case.

Labour are not only trying to point out the flaws in National but also demonstrate that they would be able to do a substantially better job of government. Pointing out the flaws in National is the easy bit.

    • xtasy 11.2

infused: I met the man, he impresses, may be a bit dodgy in some ways, but he has a degree of an IQ that few of your type of understanding folk would even grasp to comprehend.

He is miles ahead of 99.99 of the population in NZ, that is why he is where he is.

Having dealt with FBI, GCSB, SIS, NZ Police and so forth, and taken a bloody stand, while accounts are frozen, with little fluid cash, that is not an easy task, even if you used to have powerful and rich mates in various places.

NZ is a bit below his standard level of operational skills, but as much as he is also vulnerable and likely worked on the borderline of legality, does it not prove that NZ Police and secret services are the most overvalued ones compared on an international level? That may also apply for other areas of activities. Remember the leaky home crisis, asset sell-out, dairy scandal in China, mass exodus of Kiwis to Australia and the list goes on?!

How do you feel for self confidence with that bit of information?

Maybe hit the runway also, take off to Northern Queensland and get a job digging coal or uranium, as you may not be able to get a job in the smart tech area?!

  12. Rodel 12

He’s interesting sure, but anyone who gives $50,000 to help right winger Banks into power loses my respect.. Funny how they turn on each other when found out.

  13. jaymam 13

I see that 28 women have achieved a world record for having the most people in a Mini.
Dotcom should release a video of 56 women getting out of his Rolls, followed by Dotcom getting out himself.
    Here’s his Rolls:
    http://i41.tinypic.com/rumtlx.jpg

  14. So we don’t find out till next year, 2013 should be interesting. Wondering how John Key will get out of this one.

  15. tracey 15
