   Granny’s just running distractions for their corporate masters.  Over the next week, I will do what I did when I was in the UK at the time of the wedding of Charle’s and “Di”…. not watch the news.  I didn’t see any footage of that royal wedding til a couple of decades later, after Di had passed on.  By that time, the badges (I wore one) & logic for them, put out by the feminist mag Spare Rib, had already turned out to be prophetic.  The badges said,

   Don’t do it Di!

     The only reason Charles married Diana was because she was ‘breeding stock’. It wasant anything to do with love. If you look at the footage of the ’81 wedding, you will see that Diana herself wasant really keen on being there.

       Yes.  But in spite of the fact that some could see the wedding as a sham at the time, it served as a great distraction from where the “young” Thatcher government was actually heading;  increasing the gap between rich and poor, shifting the wealth upwards, and shifting the UK economy from a focus on production of goods towards one based on speculative finance, & setting the direction for the financial bubble & crash in the 21st century.
        
       Wake up, sheeples! Royal wedding extravaganzas are all smoke, mirrors and diversions.

           Thanks, M.  Well I lived through it once, and with many others protesting all the way.  But somehow it didn’t stop the neoliberal juganaut.  And the pity is, it seems so few learn from history.  Too many are seduced by the promise of constantly new shiny things.

   Z, you’re meant to swoon over morons like this because many still don’t get that apart from the UK most other countries aren’t feudal anymore. America has its own version of feudal based on money and maybe the Vanderbilts were the closest they got to a royal swag of useless bludgers. If people really thought about the yoke of suffering they would endure if things were like days of old their fawning would drop off fairly quickly.

   Having said that, with the world imploding financially, right wing governments being elected and the continuing damage of this precious rock we call home it may very well come about that things could become feudal very quickly. Would the mug and tea towel buyers want to swear fealty to some corrupt, amoral and treacherous group and their cohorts be they royal or financial?

   The sooner we become a republic and throw off these useless leeches that the poor residents of the UK have to endure the better.

     I wouldn’t quite put it like that but I agree with the sentiment. I know a lot of people like the celebrity/royalty fawning thing but we must be able to stand on our own as a country by now.
      
     The wedding is little more than historical hysteria.

       I bet soon  after the coming Royal Wedding there will be Sir John. Just watch this creepy PM  slide and wheedle his way around the royals and their hangers on . We will have to watch the PM of our country bowing and scapping before some of the biggest bludgers world wide.Then when he comes back after stuffing his face he will spend the next few days grinning ,waving and telling us all how wonderful and  beautifull they all are . And we the poor saps at home will have to pay for it .The saddest part is that a lot of our unemployed and low paid workers will all agree/ It beats me!!

     Read any fantasy books recently? The kings are all beneficent and wise while all the bad guys are socialists. This is especially true if you read David Webers Honor Harrington series where the beneficent aristocrats (which includes the dictators) are centrists (IRL they’d be called hard right authoritarians), the hard right aristocrats are snobs and the hard left people are idiots. It’s interesting to note in that series that the general population are never mentioned on the good side unless they get killed and they’re always mentioned as a drain on the bad side.
      
     These are the types of stories that we are inculcated with from birth. We are told, quite simply, that there are heroes who are always rich and handsome whom we must bow down to and the rest of the people are poor losers.

       I just did a workout on the exercise machine, watching Prime (for Dr Who intially).  And then came an extended promo for an upcoming series, Downton Abbey set in pre-WWI England, including interviews with writer, cast & crew.  It looks like an Upstairs Downstairs for the 21st Century.  It seems that, back then, the two classess (masters & servants), lived in harmony & close contact, each supporting and respecting the other, and holding the system together.  Sounds like propaganda to support the current wave of promotion of royalist sentiments & disguising the true nature of class divisions.
        
       PS:  There was also a repeated promo on Prime for it’s news, with the newsreader speaking with gravitas & accompanied by suitably heavy music.  He said, “The news comes from the four points of the globe…. North.… South….. East…. West.”
        
       Duh!  Well, gee, that all sounds sooo informative.

         Because you naturally think of yourself before anyone, you assume that everyone else will be the same, as you. Not everyone is like you, selfish, cold hearted and egotistical.
         “You” place me in the ‘centre’ of this, because you naturally believe if you were in my position you would make this situation- about yourself.
         Well I have my heart elsewhere- and that is with Ben and Olivia.
          
         Maybe you could learn at least ‘one thing’ about what life is about- learning to love from a perspective other than your own.
          
         Then you might actually know what ‘love’ is!

       Haha Draco, re the inculcation, yes, many are sold a fantasy from birth and seem to enjoy believing that the rich, good looking, famous etc are imbued with magical qualities but not everyone falls for this con.

       Since my kids were of any age to understand things I’ve used films like ‘Titanic’ to demonstrate that often wealthy people think their money confers sterling qualities or unassailable rights.

       A couple of weekends ago the film ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was another way to show that because a person has power, position and money that they can treat others like crap and expect automatic deference. The scene where the workers were scurrying like rats because the boss had arrived early showed very succinctly what words may not convey adequately about unbridled power. Of course I enjoyed the film for its lovely clothes but behind the admiration is the knowledge of the whole great swindle that the fashion and “beauty” industry is and how women and more recently men have been its prey. Not saying that people should look like swamp dwellers but if daily showering, clean clothes that flatter the wearer, being well shod with reasonable amounts of toiletries can’t cut it then people need to do some soul searching to get some perspective.

   Well apparently you do, at least enough to go the bother of writing about it 🙂
    
   And enough to read an article where the headline should give you a clue what it’s about (and therefore that you might not want to read it … except obviously you do, because then it gives you something to moan about).
    
   If you really don’t like it, don’t read the papers (and I thought nobody who contributes to “The Standard” would deign to lower themselves to reading “Granny Herald”?) or watch the news (which again, most Standard contributers regularly b!tch about).
    
   And maybe – just maybe – you could leave two people, who didn’t ask to be born into their respective positions, and who just happen to have fallen in love with each other, to enjoy their wedding …
    
   But I know you won’t, because it’s too rich an opportunity for more moaning.

     I think that Catherine Middleton is a charming well rounded woman.  I am also a fan of the Queen.  I have seen the Queen up close.  I don’t care much for any other royals, apart from Prince William and Prince Harry.

     Providing that Prince William is a husband first in his private life, Prince William and Catherine will have a successful marriage.
