The current rise of populism challenges the way we think about people’s relationship to the economy. We seem to be entering an era of populism, in which leadership in a democracy is based on preferences of the population which do not seem entirely rational nor serving their longer interests. ...
The server will be getting hardware changes this evening starting at 10pm NZDT.
The site will be off line for some hours.
So today I have had:
a text alert 10 hours after an earthquake warning of a tsunami alert
a text alert 11 hours after an earthquake cancelling a tsunami alert
a PM begin a COVID briefing talking about what is going on in France
Auckland staying at level 3 for another 48 hours and then level 2 for another week despite zero COVID cases since the yo-yo announcement of yet another level 3 lockdown last weekend …
Am I surprised when I see breach after breach of level 3 rules when I go for my daily walk … absolutely not!
It's a shambles – an utter shambles I tell ya !
Looking backwards is one thing.
Looking at the present and “shambles” is probably a pretty good description.
I don't trust 'shambles shouters‘, and COVID management is all about trust, imho.
The ‘shambles shouters‘ will be very vocal this year, regardless of outcomes. Still, gives them something to do; maybe they even believe it’s helpful/productive.
Huh?
Fairly straightforward, I would have thought.
The Bloomberg link @1.1 provides an on-going objective assessment of how well NZ is fairing vis-à-vis the global pandemic. It's not up to me to explain why NZ's COVID health outcomes are at odds with the 'shambles shouters'.
Imho the COVID 'shambles shouters' cannot be trusted – they have jumped the gun so often that their credibility is completely shot.
Perhaps a few examples of COVID 'shambles shouters' will help the penny drop.
Anything that inconveniences David is a system failure.
No inconvenience to me. Having had the wolf call so many times, I like so many have stopped listening…
Which is why we've been in L3 for a week, with another week in L2 to come. My advice would be to listen a bit harder.
I don,t mind the wolf calling as long as he doesn,t finally come… like I don,t mind running to high ground after the tsunami sirens go even if the tsunami was not so big in the end . Better safe than sorry.
So today I have had:
a txt alert 10 min after the local Tsunami Sirens started in my Community, about a half hour after the last quake that put my region in harms way. Excellent work
a txt alert once it was deemed safe to return home, gratefully received.
a PM begin a PRESS Conference (not a Covid briefing) of all the days happenings detailing some of todays important issues
an announcement of the carefully thought out by experts decision to complete the full 7 days lockdown as advertised (some people criticised the shortness of the previous 3 day lockdown)
Some people just love a good cheese with their half empty WHINE.
Cheer up dude, you're alive.
Lucky it wasn’t a real alert … if real, 10 hours after the fact telling me there is a tsunami when I live 30 metres from an affected coastline is um, crap.
Did you feel the quake? was it long and strong? did you get gone?
There is such a thing as personal responsibility. I presume you wouldn't wait if you were in an building during an earthquake.
I was in my car, evacuating 10 min before the txt came. I'm glad you are safe.
Well done being gone 10 minutes before the text. We were gone 6 hours before the text. When it finally came, it was a complete waste of time.
Note to GNS: specify that in future alerts ONLY go to those humans within reach of a tsunami.
Or David: just turn of your alerts if you think you are out of range. Oh, and yes, the alert was real. We just got lucky. If you think you are safe to dive without a seatbelt, go for it.
But you were not 30 metres from an affected coastline, were you? Are you making up crap? Are you perhaps an Aucklander who happens to be well outside Auckland?
Do you know there is time gap between lightning flash and thunder depending on the distance from the observer?
Did you know there is a time gap between earthquake and (potential) tsunami depending on the distance from the observer.
Did you know it was not false alarm today?
Why are you spreading misinformation here?
I think David is angling for an apology…

Hi David, is your surname Seymour by any chance? and yet the coastal areas under threat were well evacuated, no new Covid cases and the country is moving levels……,
you merely come on here to criticise Jacinda and the government’s efforts. Since you think it’s all so bad, feel free to move. Brazil? UK?
Melbourne Australia ( in the middle of the year). In others words if you don’t like it p… off

Attention Sysop:
We have a troll in our midst. Name's David. A bit of a dim bulb. Might need a spot of encouragement to move on.
Biden's outfit continues to exceed (admittedly low) expectations: the George Floyd Act bans chokeholds.

Putting qualified immunity on the table is also a big move.
Check out Tamaki National MP Simon O'Connor crowing over a flood of Dr Seuss book orders owning the woke censors … as if all the money isn’t going to the ‘censors’!
Reverse boycott, drown them in money?

That'll teach them a Thing One & Thing Two!
I can only hope the buyers will actually learn something from Dr Seuss they obviously missed out growing up.
