Ray White reckons it’s new partnership with China’s largest real estate agency is NOT designed to sell off New Zealand homes to 260 million Chinese buyers.

    <a href="https://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/32185536/ray-white-responds-to-boycott-threat-its-not-up-to-us-to-make-a-moral-decision-on-foreign-ownership/#stop&quot“>

    <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209769868511814&set=p.10209769868511814&type=3&theater&quot“>

    • BM 1.1

Ray White says marketing New Zealand and Australian properties to Chinese buyers is “nothing new” and it is up to the government to put a stop to it, not the real estate industry.

We’re rather hamstring by the FTA labour signed with China.

The only way to stop the Chinese from buying New Zealand properties is to ban everyone, fuck Labour for selling us down the river.

      • McFlock 1.1.1

Not sure how tragic that would be…

        • BM 1.1.1.1

Is Labour going to ban everyone.?

          • McFlock 1.1.1.1.1

No idea what Labour will or will not ban.

You went from a disingenuous comment from a ‘gosh we’re only one of the pistols that are killing the NZ home security dream, it’s really the government pulling the trigger’ real estate agency to asking me for Labour party policies? That’s a stretch.

Oh, and fuck the aussies, too.

      • Leftie 1.1.2

BM. Stop making excuses for the Key National government that’s been in power since 2008.

        • BM 1.1.2.1

          Don’t be a fucking idiot.

Labour sold us down the river and unless we tell every one to fuck off there’s not really a lot we can do.

And that’s not the position a country that relies heavily on exports wants to find its self in.

          • Leftie 1.1.2.1.1

What’s traitor John the Con been doing for the last 8 and a half years BM?

Disagree, there’s a lot that can be done, and it’s not a matter of telling “everyone” to F off.

          • weka 1.1.2.1.2

How many other countries restrict foreign ownership? Have they gone bankrupt?

            • Stuart Munro 1.1.2.1.2.1

Well yes, but they mostly don’t appoint complete non-performers like Bill English to finance portfolios. Without foreign land sales providing a macroeconomic facade the improvidence of Gnat policy will be obvious even to predatory banks and desperate foreigners looking for tax havens.

            • Leftie 1.1.2.1.2.2

Weka, China completely restricts foreign ownership. No foreigner is allowed to buy and own land, property or houses in China. China hasn’t gone bankrupt, just the opposite in fact.

        • Chris 1.1.2.2

“National bad, Labour good. Ug ug.” One dimensional leftie does it again. “Ug, ug.” Fuck mate, you need to read more.

          • Leftie 1.1.2.2.1

You do not need to be abusive Chris. Did you read the link? No thoughts on the topic at hand then? Is that your way of defending National and Ray White?

Just asked 2 questions that it appears neither you or BM are prepared to answer. You need to stop stalking and trolling.

            • Chris 1.1.2.2.1.1

When your analysis goes no further than defending Labour then all you deserve is abuse. You need to understand that the “no matter what Labour does they’re better than National” approach doesn’t cut it any more because it strengthens support for the very thing you say you’re opposed to therefore is worthy of nothing but disdain and ridicule.

              • Leftie

Get over yourself, you’re raving. Blaming Labour for what National is doing doesn’t cut it anymore either Chris.

What analysis? what defense? You think 2 questions deserve abuse?

Instead of getting on here just to berate me, answer the questions then. Stick to the topic instead of pointless abuse.

      • Colonial Viper 1.1.3

BM, Labour is part of the pro-free trade neoliberal establishment. Please don’t expect them to be any different to what they have been for the last 35 years.

      • Pat 1.1.4

lmao….right, do you actually believe the bullshit you spout?…or is it all for effect?

      • weka 1.1.5

“We’re rather hamstring by the FTA labour signed with China.”

        No, we’re not.

“The only way to stop the Chinese from buying New Zealand properties is to ban everyone,”

What part of restricting house ownership to NZ residents and citizens do you not understand? It’s nothing to do with being Chinese, it’s whether you have citizenship/residency in NZ (hint, there are Chinese people that fit that criteria).

“fuck Labour for selling us down the river.”

        What?

        • BM 1.1.5.1

Is your memory that poor?, seriously I’d go and see a doctor if I was you.

          http://thestandard.org.nz/the-greens-take-a-stand-on-the-housing-bubble/#comment-1210241

This is a post you created !!

          • weka 1.1.5.1.1

I remember it very well. It’s the thread where a man on the internet made a claim that the 2008 FTA with China meant we couldn’t restrict house sales to Chinese nationals, and the only support for the claim was a blogpost by an Actoid and some inthread neoliberal interpretations of the agreement that kind of went around in circles and ended up nowhere.

I tweeted Turei, asking if their policy was workable in the FTA context, and she said they believed that restricting sales to NZ residents/citizens would work.

Now whatever you think about the Greens and their policies, they don’t lie and they’re not stupid. So either you think Turei IS lying or is thick, or you’re just pushing your agenda and misuing debate to do so.

If you genuinely believe that the FTA definitely stops a NZ govt from restricting house sales to NZers, then make the case specificaly. Because that thread the other day was a day of a wild pukeko chasing that basically seemed to come down to something about how we can’t restrict China because we can’t restrict Oz. Which is not a definitive argument (and is a nonsense). I just wish the righties would be more honest and say they don’t want restrictions.

            • BM 1.1.5.1.1.1

they believed that restricting sales to NZ residents/citizens would work.

They believed = they don’t have a clue or they’re talking bullshit and hoping no one will pick them up on it.

              • weka

Or they’ve done some initial work and analysis that tells them that their plan is doable and now they’re going to do the more in depth work on the details.

And/or Turei was being cautious about committing definitively to something to some random question from someone she didn’t know on the internet (which given how much stupid shit politicians do with twitter is wise).

And/or it was the end of the day and she used the words “I think” because I’d asked her opinion.

In other words you’ve got absolutely nothing other than slagging off a political party who you consistently disagree with. But thanks for linking to a thread that proves my position and disproves yours 🙂 And I’m happy to name you as lying each time you trot out the line that the FTA stops NZ govts from restricting house sales to foreigners.

      • whispering kate 1.1.6

BM spout all you like, its a democracy (of sorts) here in NZ and if clients which to boycott Ray White as their agency for selling their home, then its their right. I say its a good sign that there are many people in this country upset at how many foreigners who are not permanently living here are buying up our housing stock. If that is the only leverage they have then its all power to them. Its time to stop blaming Labour for everything, there are tools in the Government’s toolbox which would ease this situation but they choose not to use them. Get used to it, the prevailing Government is a waste of space and lacks guts to do anything meaningful.

  2. weka 3

Now sure what to make of this. MSM giving us some hope, or a double blind to throw the protestors off with a false sense of security 😉

Labour’s Annette King has revealed she had a meeting with Joe Biden last week, who pretty much told her the TPPA is dead.

    https://twitter.com/NewshubPolitics/status/758746720981307392

    • McFlock 3.1

Well, Trump opposes it, Sanders got a lot of support opposing it, Clinton’s VP candidate has reversed position and opposes it in its current form. I suspect a lot of representative candidates also oppose it.

Things look bad for it at this stage.

    • Anne 3.2

It will be for real. Fits in with what others have been saying about the TPPA this week since the start of the DNC.

    • Muttonbird 3.3

Clinton said in her speech today she’s for trade deals that are fair and she’s for protecting the steel industry and she’s going to stand up to China.

Pity our pm thinks none of these things are important.

      • mauī 3.3.1

And Obama probably said he was for race equality and peace in his inauguration speech, and look where we are today.

        • Muttonbird 3.3.1.1

Yep. ‘Murca is more definitely more divided and seemingly more violent than it was.

My point on Clinton is that her standing up for her country’s own industry and retreat from free trade at all costs is at odds with our own heartless lot, and at odds with Obama.

She’s making a grab for Trump’s audience by rejecting globalisation.

          • Colonial Viper 3.3.1.1.1

Hahahaha this is hilarious you can even think for a millisecond that she believes in what she is saying on this.

Her and her husband Bill Clinton have collected hundreds of millions in speaking fees and donations from transnational business interests who want MORE free trade not less LOL

Gawd I am crying with laughter

            • joe90 3.3.1.1.1.1

NEW YORK, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Donald Trump, the Real Estate

nation’s toughest boss is getting a 50 percent pay hike in salary from
$1 million an hour to $1.5 million. That is $25,000 a minute. It is also the

              http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/donald-j-trump-gets-15-million-for-speech-55453402.html

              • Colonial Viper

You do realise that is income from Trump’s core business right, in his role as head of that business?

It is not from people donating to him in order to have him (or his spouse) sign off on US Gov decisions like selling off US uranium resources, or accessing mining rights in Nigeria, like Hillary Clinton received money for while she was Sec State, supposedly serving the people of the United States.

                • joe90

Other than the fevered utterings of the tin foil brigade and self confirmed insiders do you have anything remotely plausible to confirm the existence of these kickbacks you speak of?.

            • Muttonbird 3.3.1.1.1.2

I thought it was an interesting departure from the prevailing narrative: free trade at all costs. I mean that’s her official line now – industry protection, job protection. Whether it’s believable is something else.

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/82629746/murray-mccully-met-saudi-businessman-tied-to-a-controversial-farm-deal

A deal the foreign minister struck with a Saudi businessman, which is being investigated by the Auditor-General, is back in the spotlight after the two recently met in the Middle East.

Murray McCully has been embroiled in controversy for more than a year over the Government spending $11.5 million on establishing a sheep farm in Saudi Arabia in partnership with influential businessman, Hmood Al Khalaf.

Treasury documents released under the Official Information Act reveal McCully met with Al Khalaf in Riyadh in April, where he also met with the Saudi Minister of Commerce and officials and hosted a function for interested New Zealand companies.
