    A manual car is best it cost the least to maintain when you got a flat battery you can crash start it try doing that with a manual.And when the mokos get infected by others bad behaviour they won’t take a manual car and crash it in a manual car if you lose traction start skidding you can change down gears and pull out of the skid.

        and I think you will find that modern autos are way cheaper to maintain. Subaru auto trans from the late 90s on for example do about 350,000km before dying. A service costs $80 and you would only need to do this three times over lifetime = $240.

    They are phaseing out manual cars so they can bleed the common people more as it is the people who by cars 6 year +, old who pay for all the maintenance cost.

    Wealth people who have a business get to depreciation there work vehicles YEA RIGHT??? At
    30% a year 30% of $30.000 is $9.000 a year after 3 years they have claimed against there tax bill $27.000 WTF.
    One mite say what about the interest paid well that is claimed against there tax bill to so is matainance.

    It’s the same for the benefits system the tax paying person is subsidiseing all businesses that employ people who have children. And that makes it harder for people with no children I.E the elderly working class the youth with know children this benefit systems keeps wages low and the neoliberals business multi national business take the proffets and run all the way to the bank laughing YOU poor common people are losing out.       We always used to have the family benefit. Children are a social good, a necessity for society to continue, as well as a private good. It seems to me more than reasonable to ask those who choose not to have children to help pay the costs of those who do.

        That already occurs in the form of paying taxes – common good ‘an all.

        But further to that, are you suggesting those that choose not to have children personally subsidise other families? That seems like an absurd suggestion.

        I have no children and can barely take care of myself financially, let alone others.

        I’m talking about working people the min wage would be $20 a hour with out benefits.
        I know that this reality is a bit hard for some people to grasp The universal wage of $250 a week regardless if you are married or working that would encourage everyone to work as they get to keep all there earning after tax we would get rid of a lot of paper shufflers.
        It would be good to know how winz spent on administration must be at least 30%

            But seriously, the problem you outline is one of low wages rather than one of having a welfare state that supports children. People on the minimum wage would receive way more in services than they pay the value of in tax. In effect it is not actually them who are paying for welfare transfers to families with children but rather those on medium and higher incomes.

            I’ve been a supporter of having a UBI for thirty years. There would still though be welfare transfers to those caring for children. In fact a “universal” benefit would by definition require payments to children as they have human rights too and are just as entitled as anybody else.

    This is the rock-star economy where our doctors cannot cope anymore and have no extra capacity. Imagine if this winter we get the Aussie Flu that has been smashing the rest of the world, will our health system manage? What about the next epidemic?

    If this isn’t fixed we are heading for a disaster. I am thinking that Labour are going to have to raise taxes and have to blame it on National running down our services to such dangerously low levels. Health at breaking, Education broken, Police under-paid and no funds set aside by National for pay rises, no money set aside for military upgrade….

      Must be time for an increase in health subsidies then.

      Any way of finding out how many foreign-qualified doctors there are driving taxis or doing similar work to get together the hefty fees for NZ accreditation?

      Medical is a closed shop, and the quality isn’t that great. ACC pays out solid amounts for iatrogenic harms – just as insurance companies do overseas.

      The whole system needs a massive overhaul but who wants to trouble the sacred cows and ‘image’ of ‘our wonderful medical people’?

        If you want a foreign qualified doctor you should be safe as houses in the current medical climate of import foreigners, export skilled Kiwis.

        P.S. when they bought in tertiary fees, everyone said that would happen, there would be medical shortages of local people and only the most rich and privileged would become doctors (it would not surprise me, if there is a large contingent of Asian students entering NZ medicine as it is considered high status career in Asia – not necessary because someone wants to be a doctor).

        Asia is not know for it’s free and highly skilled doctors which NZ medical system used to be, so our medical system is changing as is the amount of bureaucrats to ‘productionize’ medicine with less skilled people as well as the usual contingent of managers, middle managers, upper managers and so forth to manage the production as well as dream up new ways of cutting costs. “I know lets outsource our health meals to spotless so they can cream off profits and lower wages”.

      Zero funding rise in health is asking for trouble, it tends to run at about 10% CPI regardless of what’s going on around it.

      Add in the 12% population growth under National caused by an open door ‘have money come on down’ approach and other factors like kiwis coming home and BOOM.

      National knew exactly what they’re doing with Ryall/Coleman’s biggest task in keeping a lid on it which in the absence of a large private health sectors easy as they’ve got nowhere else to go.

      Appointing dodgy mates into senior DHB and MOH positions helps heaps like the waikato DHB’s Nigel Murray.

      They were warned about him but barrelled ahead anyway.

    We are wanting Labour to re-open our rail services that National wrecked by cutting the rail maintenance funds and it caused blocked drains and a rail washout,

      It’ll be interesting to see what happens to. Shame we don’t still have an MWD.
      I spoke to several people involved in the renewal of rail system between a couple of places caled Majolha and Tanakpur. They said they got the equiv of a living wage, gained a heap new skills grom track maintenance to signalling.
      50km completed in under 18 months and capable of supporting 100kmph.
      I compare that with the extension of Parparaumu to Waikanae….much ticket clipping going on me thinks

    Consider that atmospheric methane levels are now at ~1850 parts per billion.

    With a warming potential of 86x that of CO2 over a 20 year timespan, that adds another 159 ppm CO2 equivalent on top of current CO2 levels of 407 ppm.

    For a grand total of 556 ppm CO2 equivalent.

    Of course, this still doesn’t take into account the effect of the many other greenhouse gases eg water vapour, N2O, CFCs etc.

    Denis Maga pointing out what should have been the bleeding obviou in Granny H re imgrant workers and their bosses (sorry can’t link from this device).
    Shamefully too, often the legit immigrant workers are the ones getting tipped out of the country whilst those into exploiting het to stay.
    There is a solution too, and it’s to automatcally revoke THE PR status of those convicted along with jail/fines.
    If they’ve already managed citizenship then tougher sentence. In both cases seize assets to pay workers if necessary.
    They might just find it an effective way of reducing immig numbers.

    Radionz report this afternoon on someone selling arms overseas – rocket launchers etc. Queen St address. I think they said that there was UN ban.

    Ron Mark, ex Army, said sourly that people who don’t like defence and have the idea of sitting around singing kumbaya won’t like it. NZFirst have agreed for a bill to go to select committee but may not vote for it afterwards. Lawyer said if limitation on action is too loose, and just applies in NZ I think, then a shell company can be set up overseas and get round the ban.

    The arms dealing was found out about in 2009 but nothing done till now.

    Don’t know just what the bill is for but those here interested in defence and armaments will understand more than I did.
